I went with TracQuest last weekend to Watkins Glen for a DE. They're passing rules are much more open, with fully open passing in the fast group. This was my 5th DE and my 3rd at the Glen. In the second day, I was bumped to the Fast group. There were some wicked cars there and you can see some in the video. One video is of a 2:22.10 with virtually no traffic. It wasn't my absolute fastest run, but I think it's a good representation. The other video is a few laps when I was passed by some seriously fast/exotic cars. We couldn't have asked for better weather for the end of October at the Glen. The 2 new videos are named 2005-10-xxxxxxx.wmv.

Hmm.... This was a particularly expensive one. The most expensive that I've done. The school was $495 for the No-frills option (with TracQuest). I had a 6+ hour drive to and from the track. Not including the tires, since I've already bought them, I went through 1 set of brake pads and A LOT of gas. Including the trip, I probably spent close to $400 on gas. Definitely over $300. Figure $120 for the Hawk brake pads... I'd say the weekend cost me about a grand. Ouch.
Usually, the schools are$250-$350 for a 2 day event and they're 3 hours or less away. That would drop me to $600 or so, I'd figure. Not bad. Well worth it, imo.

Avg speed would be around.....

2:22.1 = ~.037hrs and the glen is about 3 mi long... 3/.037 is 81 mph. The glen might be 3.4mi long, though. I can't remember. Then it'd be 3.4/.037 = 91mph.

In any case, I was hitting about 120 on the front straight and 130 on the back straight. This was up from 124 when my car was bone stock.

 

what kind of engine mods do you have, if any?

 

None. Just removed the catalytic converter. Waaay better than shelling out 2x the money for a catback. This actually provides a power boost (~8hp). Combining that with the weight savings, it's actually something I can feel. Oh, did I mention that it shoots flames?
