Pictures from the East Coast

Let's see if I can make this come out half decent.

Here is a shot of me (with the silver GT) and bgparsons3 (with the Ti GT). He stopped by on the way to North Sydney to take his car by ferry back to Newfoundland.

And here is a much nicer one, since I'm not in it, of the two cars.

I can just barely read the VIN...! I have to admit the Z is also a gorgeous engineering job.

Nice to see a Z in black. All the ones around here are blue, silver or that orangy-brown thing.

Cars look awesome.
BTW don't you have front plates in your provinces?

We do in Ontario, but what a shame to blow that front view. I'm going to try and go as long as I can without a front plate.
(put in on the dash)

Rotorian,

You should move to a "have not" province. N.S. discontinued the front plates a few years ago to save money. What a shame :D

I'm assuming Newfoundland is the same, but bgparsons3 can tell you for sure when he gets back online (I'm thinking the ferry isn't web ready...).

Rotarian,

Do you know what the fines or penalties are for not having a front license plate?

I'm still trying to find out how much the fine is here in Ontario, but there are no points involved for a missing plate. Check here to see for yourself.

I was talking to a sales guy last night about it. Apparently, you get a warning first. I've been pulled over with my FD before without a plate. I got a warning, I had the 'ol "bracket is a Japanese item and it's on back-order excuse".

IMO, the plate will not look as bad on the front of the 8 as it did on the 7.

That's the excuse I'm going to try to use.
IMHO driving locally probably won't be an issue, but the highway could be another thing.

My wife asked about the 407, but they only say the rear plate must be visible.

We'll have to see!

Hey all - not a lot of time to chat but a quick update.

After driving from Halifax to St. John's (just got into town an hour ago) I am in love! This car is as smooth as you can imagine. I assume I am the first in Canada to have their 8 officially "broken in"??? Hit 1000km passing through Grand Falls, Nfld - before it hit 1001 I had heard what redline sounds like, very sweet!

Nfld is same as NS, no front plate required. In fact, they only sold me the one plate. Good thing, it's all bad enough with the speeding tickets I'll be paying, getting fined for incorrect plate mounting would make this whole venture expensive.

My only nitpicky complaints so far:
- AC indicator light is not visible in sunny conditions
- the volume control is too coarse (2 is too low to hear, 3 is too high to have a normal conversation)

Huge thanks to timsteele and his team at Steele Mazda in Dartmouth. Even though I'd purchased the car from Penney Mazda in Nfld, Steele indulged my impatience and did the full PDI and vehicle orientation with me so I could get the car a few days early. Thanks to the whole crew...

BTW, Redshift's Winning Blue and Jasper's Silver are both gorgeous. I have to admit, I was skeptical about the blue from the photos but in person it is great! Not surprisingly, I am rather partial to the Titanitum.

More later....

Glad to see the 8 survived the boat ride.

You certainly beat me on the mileage, I'm only at 350 km. But I'm leaving in a few minutes and should put a good 1000+ on it this weekend. :D

I don't like the License in the front. It takes away the whole look of the car. I'm not putting it on until i get pulled over. My excuse will be that I just purchased the brackets because the others ones snapped at the front. Then show the cop the new brackets.

If he asked why it wasn't on the car yet. i'll tell him I just picked it up today and will put it on when you get home.
