The stock tires suck in the cold/snow...they are hard as rocks at about 0 deg. Get a good snow tire if you can...Nokian, Pirelli etc. Winter rims too if you can pony up the cash.......

I am putting on Avons from TireRack tomorrow... Rated pretty good at tirerack.com
Will write an extensive review of these all season tires after the first snowstorm in Baltimore.

But Canadian RX-8s need winter tires too, even if we're not wimps! 
Somewhere around here I thought I had a sticky thread, time to resurrect it - there is a sticky from Tire Rack, though.
You should also do a search for "winter tire" in this forum section - put in my user name if you like as well, as I've participated in most of the discussions over the past 2.5 years. Here's one to get you started, from Oct 30, 2003, I think I was the first to drive in snow in an RX-8: First test of RX-8 in snow - it's great! . Also do the same search in the Canada regional forum, as there are specifics there on where to buy in Canada.
Seriously, read some of my posts - and if you're from Vancouver, then you absolutely need to be shopping at www.tiretrends.com , a Canadian internet tire seller based in Vancouver. I bought my set of winter wheels and tires from them, great service and great prices.
After you've read some (a bunch), feel free to ask any questions you might have!

i think we need more than a sticky for 'winter tires' for this season.
we need an entire SECTION devoted to winter tires at the top of the homepage in red type with flashing yellow lights travelling around it with a sound clip that screams "CLICK ME".
