I think I finally decided to keep my black Rx-8 clean by getting Silver or Red instead.

No, I'm not kidding.

I have never owned a black vehicle and have no idea how hard it is going to be to keep glossy clean. I am hoping that since it will parked in the garage it will maintain a great shine. I know that the pictures of the Black RX-8's that I have seen look wonderful. That is what made me want to switch to Black. I was convinced I didn't want the silver and had narrowed it to the red or black.....then seeing those pictures of the Black 8.......breathtaking and very classy.
If you have any suggestions on the upkeep I would love to hear them. I've read a few posts a long time back about some special wax and also about some special rim cleaner. I can't remember the names though.

Halley,
check out http://www.zainostore.com for what are widely regarded as the best automotive car products. Can't speak from personal experience, although I ordered a bunch of stuff and just need a car to put it on

There is also some good car care info at

Thumbs up Zaino

Zaino is the real thing. Nothing I have seen makes a car shinier, and it really is easier than wax to apply. One of my favorite features is that you can apply it to the WHOLE car, rubber, glass, it doesn't leave ugly white blotches on the rubber and it's like putting Rain-X on the glass. Water beads almost JUMP off the surface!

You bought black, you're going to have to work to keep it nice looking. Do yourself a favor and check out Zaino.

use zaino. STuff just doesn't stick to my car as easily after starting in on Zaino. Even after driving around in the rain, I've found that my car is drastically cleaner than before i started using zaino.

Zaino rocks. I clay-bar'd my RX-8 yesterday, then put 3 coats of zaino on it. I had a problem with insects smearing all over the paint when I drive at night. Well I took it out for a spin last night after the 3 coats and not a single insect marking. strange. I guess they slid right off the zaino. i did take quite a few hits on the front glass, but I didn't put zaino on the windshield.

Seeing the results from zaino, Im really interested in getting it.
Do you guys just get the total protection show car kit? Or do you guys just get individual items?

Thanx

You don't get any "deal" by buying the kit - add it up. On the other hand, there is nothing in the kit that you don't need if you want your car to look its best. The kit is a very good way to get started.

If you want a good thread about Zaino, the process & results, here's a good one from my350z.com, where Dr. Bonz takes before & after pics and tells about his process. Dr. Bonz has over 30 coats on now and his car looks liquid! :D

I made the same choice after owning a black MX-6....black is the best looking of all of the colors....if you can keep it clean for longer than 20 seconds. The rest of the time it is a mess...and man does it suck when you get your first roof/hood scratch.

Where does one pick up a bottle of this Zaino in Canada (for waxing indoors, out of the snow of course)?

Mail order!

Zaino web site

There are local distributors in a lot of areas, which might be easier in Canada. You should find references to them on the web site. If nothing else, send them an email, they're very helpful.
