Get the new brake pads if you can

I took my car into the dealer to have my squeaky brakes looked at under the TSB. They replaced them and I do think that most of the squeaking is gone for now. But the best part is that there is almost no brake dust from these pads. It has been almost two weeks, and my front wheels are still clean and shiny. It used to take only about 3 days for them to start to look dirty, and after two weeks, they would have been black. Definitely worth it.

jaguar,

I haven't tried for these because there was a VIN range on the TSB... Is yours within that range? If not, then what dealership did you go to?

My car was within the VIN range on the TSB. If yours isn't, I would assume that it would mean that you already have the new pads. However, if you go in and complain of squeaking, they might replace them if your car is still within what they call the adjustment period. I am not sure how many miles or months that is, but you can call and find out. I went to Hiley Mazda in Hurst. I'll post if my squeak comes back or if I start getting brake dust again.

My 8 VIN falls in the 'affected' range. However, since my 04 was just purchased and only has 1,300 miles on it, I don;t have this problem.
Approx. what mileage are most of you experiencing the brake squeal? (I just want to be prepared!)

Thanks

They could not reproduce my squeaking, but they said that my car was still in the "adjustment period", and that they were allowed to change out the pads once for free within that period so they went ahead and did it. I think I started hearing it at about 3,500 to 4,000 miles.

Can you give me the part number of the brake pad they used please? I have the same problem. My pads were replaced, but they are worse than ever.

Had mine replaced last fall (TBS) and after about 1500 miles the squeal returned.
I took my 8 back to the stealer-ship and they pretty much suggested "I live with it"...
These are the same guys that wouldn't replace my filmy headlights...
I'll be replacing my front pads myself...
Thanks Mazda... you guys are great...

yeah, ours have already been replaced once (less than 5K miles) and it's back in the shop again for the SAME problem. Basically they told us to "keep an eye on it"....like it's going to get BETTER with time.

I've been thinking of getting the AutoExe front pads but if there is a dealer pad that will fix it thats fine by me.

I'll see if I can find the paperwork on that.

awesome, let me know what you find. My wife picked the car back up and she said it still squeals some but not as much as it did...still I don't think a car that stickered for $30,495 should make any noises. I've owned tubs of crap that didn't squeal like this.

Got mine replaced at 17000 miles. Have 27000 miles on the car now. Replacement brakes did not squeak at first, but do now (although not as much as the original brakes). I guess the main bonus is that there is MUCH less brake dust.
