djseto:

I'm with you. I bought my 8 in Oct of 2003 and have been waiting for a new Nav DVD since I rolled off the showroom floor.

What do we need to do to take care of this BS?

I would be there also, but my damn navigation system indicates that it "cannot provide complete guidance to that location."

I'm in. I would suggest that rather than just keeping this in the thread here and venting our frustration, that we coorindate our complaints to Navteq and Mazda and call them. We should each call them at least twice and week. If 200 people call the same office twice a week that's 400 calls a week, or 80 a day. They'll notice. And they might actually do something. I'm still a forum novice, anyone know how to organize such a campaign?

This may be something that you've already done, but is Tennessee in a different zone than you usually have the Nav system set to? I'm in California and when I got mine, it had the Mid West set as the region. Took me a little while to figure out was wrong and set it to the Western US.

At that price, I think you should seriously consider burning copies.
I don't have a Nav system.
I bought an aftermarket system for my wife's car.
I spent the extra money getting one with a built-in harddrive ($1100), so all the updates are free. No software to buy, whether I'm updating the Firmware, updating the Maps or adding new languages/voices. I just download it from their website.
That's why I decided not to get the Nav system in the 8.

Good luck guys.

Hope it works out. Either at a reasonable price or burning copies.

I also noticed that my disk is from 2002. Count me in.

But-- these disks must be copyrighted. Especially considering the lawsuits against college kids who download copyrighted songs, it's probably not a great idea to be discusing burning on an open forum. Private e-mail is a little better.

How do you make this thread sticky?
For what it's worth, I've been bothering them since I bought the car in 2003... at least a half dozen calls. Each time I've been told it would be another month or two... what I can't believe is Mazda is selling 2005's with that 2002 data. I felt I got screwed back in '03... now that it's '05 someone really dropped the ball.

I live near an area that has new roads opened every few months.. 2002 is rediculously old for me (nav directs me to take old LOOOONG routes to places).

How about writing a letter/email that we can all sign individually, and send on our own to Mazda/Navteq? I have like 8 email addresses that I regularly use, and I could send that email twice a day from 8 addresses, thats 16 messages a day from me alone. 100 other people could easily muster another 250 messages a day.

LETS BE ANNOYING! LETS BE HEARD!

Personally, I think $200 is rediculous, btw... but I'll pay it. *sigh*

200 dollars for a $1 dvd is crazy; plus all the "hard research" is already done on the web, ie mapquest etc....

it really should be included with this 2000+ option.

I am not about to pay $200 for a DVD disc that is an update. This is not like a maintenance item. My car is an 04', so i would expect 04' data, besides that, i was told by Mazda that it should be covered as a warrany item. This is crap because i am continually disappointed with my car and with Mazda motors. If the 8 didn't look so dang good, i would probably sell the thing. First, i buy a car that is supposed to have 238 hp, and find out that it doesn't, and then find out that it gets 16mpg when i should be getting about 20mpg. I really like my car, and i am not about to get a different car, but i just have been really disappointed with the power. For 16mpg, i want to sqirm in my seat when i push the gas, a vet gets 20mpg with 400hp !!!

sorry i needed to vent :D
