May or may not have the spare in the city, depends whether I need the room in the trunk. On trips having a spare would beat waiting for roadside assistance or using the kit and possibly ruining the tire.

I keep the spare out of my RX to avoid performance penalties. The spare, mounting kit and jack weighs a lot, and dumping them is the cheapest performance enhancement you can get. Accelleration and turning is noticably improved, though probably doesn't make a big difference in performance numbers.
But I plan on taking spare on long trips through remote roads. I would take spare through parts of California and Nevada, for instance, due to remoteness and danger of heat or cold if stranded.
