Has anybody bought the 2005 (retractable) key fob for their 2004 vehicle?

 

Too pricey for me. If I happen to need a spare because of breaking one of my keys then I'll consider it.

i paid about $160 Canadian with taxes - so go to your local dealer to get it - MUCH cheaper.

i programed the chip and remote myself - it's not that hard actually. just follow the steps in the DIY thread.

i lied. just double checked my invoice - i paid $180 for both pieces and a couple of bucks to get it cut at a local key store and taxes.

i guess it depends on how much profit the dealer wants to make off of you.

 

Can you name the dealer for this $180 2005 Key?
I was quoted - $255.35 + programming.
Outrageous.

 

Had one when I drove my golf. Very niffty to play with indeed, but to spend that much for a key? I gots me custom made emblems for way less than that and to me, extra stuff is more worth it--then there's the gas prices

i got remote part about 3weeks by now, still waiting for the key part( i mean 05 key) dealer sale separate, key need back order from japan. 145+tax for remote about 70+tax for key. dealer said cut for free.

$400??? your dealer is trying to scam you. My dealer told me list price from Mazda is around $239 + tax. I asked what the best price he could sell it to me for was and he gave it to me for $188 and got it cut for free. I guess some dealerships are more honourable than others and actually care about customer satisfaction. Dealer also asked if I wanted them to program it at no charge but I just did it myself, its really easy.

 

if it is lower than $200 w/ tax...i will go to get tomorrow....and does anyone know that is there any possiblily for me to get the key in the other dealers,not the one i got the car??

 

I ended up picking one up from my local dealership for about 180 plus tax, works great, looks even better!

 

Same key as VW - Still kind of bulky if you ask me - especially for $160-$180.
I need something small for summer - although the 2005 single solution is better than the seperate key+fob solution.
Is $160-$180 the going price? And is that for 2 complete sets?

 

finally i ordered the key today....it was so ridicilous that i had to pay for the key in 2 different parts...they just said the remote and the key should be separately ordered...omg, did anyone get a key w/o remote, or just the remote w/o key...anyways..the remote is $175 and the key is $64. They gave me like $35 on them and totally its $229 including tax..well the remote has to been sent from toronto, the key from japan....it will take me 1 month waiting....and at the end ,i have to pay $40 on labor...omfg they robbed me!

 

1 month wait??? I just ordered mine from a dealer in Edmonton and got it in 3 days.

The 2005 key comes in 2 pieces, the remote and the key. You get the key cut and then the 2 parts snap together.

 

yup...i was soooo upset and fainted......they said they checked the computers all over canada....and they had remote only in toronto..and key in japan........3 days for the remote to send to vancouver.. but 1 month for the japan key to get here

 

Got my new '05 key, only took about 2 minutes to program it. A bit pricey considering it doesn't really do anything special but defnitely rates a 10 on the cool factor.
