Lots of info on wheel weights, but less so with tires. Here's my contribution, based on e-mail from BF Goodrich:

225/45/18....22.51 pounds
245/40/18....26.28 pounds

Toyo T1-S (argubly better performance)

235/40/18 22.9 lbs
245/40/18 24.0 lbs

Remember that because the tire is on the outside of the rotational mass of the wheel, its weight has a much greater effect then the wheel itself. The larger the diameter wheel, the greater the tire weight effects it. Aka a lb or two of wheel weight on a 19 inch rim has a noticable effect on the car's performance and handling.

 

I would like to add a word of caution here.

Some of the heavier tires do very well in the Tire Racks performance tests. The 225/45 - 18 S-03 by Bridgestone weighs 27 lbs yet it does very well in ratings and performance tests using a comparable car a BMW 330ci:

Yet with a 5lb or more disadvantage you might think it couldn't ever win when you here from people on this forum.

EDIT: Ps. To Mitchfriend below, I think a listing of tire weights is fine but it is a very partial listing of tire performance. Crossbow made accurate comments about the effect of weight of tires on performance so I made a counter statement about overall performance. A listing of tire weights is like a listing of PSI's for available FI kits - it is part of the story but far from the whole story.

 

How about keeping this thread as light as possible by just listing tire weights? Plenty of other threads that have discussed the pros and cons of tire/wheel weight. I've modified my thread accordingly.

 

I've done alot of reseach on this one, and the lightest tires you can buy are:

235/40/18 Toyo T1S - 22.9lb
235/40/18 Continental Contisport Contact - 22lb
225/45/18 Continental Contisport Contact - 23lb
235/40/18 Pirelli PZero Nero - 22lb (and these are uni-directional)

Note: per http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html, 235/40/18 is only a hair smaller than our stock size, so the effect on the speedo is next to none. Also not all tires come in all sizes so i didn't my best to match to our stock size. 235/40 and 245/40 are both damn close to our stock 225/40/18

RE040 225/24/18 - 26lb
Bridgestone SO-3 225/45/18 - 25lb
BFG gforce 225/45/18 - 24.76lb
AVS 100 225/45/18 - 24.55lb
Kumho 712 245/40/18 - 27lb

I heard too that 040 and s03 are really heavy tires... Hmm, Toyos seem very light, night be a good choice

 

Anyone weighed their stock Dunlops?
Add weight can mean the manufacturer beefed up the sidewalls which results in greater handling feedback with less flex of the sidewall when you corner. So depends on what you're into, if you're into autocrossing, you'd want super stiff sidewalls.
