Defn of Dropping Clutch?

Hi all, what is the definition of dropping the clutch?
Whenever I want to go fast from a dig, I raise to about 4 -5 k, then kind of feather the clutch, I believe that is called feathering the clutch rite? not dropping the clutch rite?
Is Dropping Clutch really literally, rev the car, then just 'drop' the clutch?
I know both is bad for the car, but which one's worse?

Thanx

I think you answered your own question.

Slipping (or feathering) the clutch is much easier on your tranny and rear end as long as you don't get wheel hop. Your clutch will be toast either way.

Actually slipping is worse on the clutch, speaking in terms of longevity, and better on the tranny. Think about it this way, when you drop the clutch pedal, your clutch is being rapidly spun up to speed before mating with the flywheel. The only risk here is the clutch cracking when you drop it, but as far as the amount of clutch material that is burned it is much less then trough the method of feathering.

When you feather the clutch to spin the wheels and eliminate wheelhop your clutch is being held in suspension for a longer period of time allowing more of the material to be burned.

If you are concnered with your launch... dropping the clutch will get you excessive tire spin. There is a balance.

Also, Feathering on ur launches wont destroy ur 8 because hopefully your not doing this everyday. If your a street racer and do this everytime you go outside, i hope it does destroy ur car. If you are doing this only when you hit the track... your car should handle fine.

If you just drop you clutch at 7.5k-8k rpm with 32psi your not going to get wheelspin your going to get a shitload of wheelhop especially on a drag strip where they put down that sticky spray.

You need to feather it to find that balance.
