Angry 3 weeks without my '8 (Transmission)

Hey everyone... I was driving my car a couple of weeks ago, and as I was pulling out of a gas station and tried to shift into second it just wanted to grind. I went ahead and let off, then put it in second again just fine. As I release the Clutch I heard the worst sound I have ever heard. I was just 30 yards or so from the gas station and it would still go in 1st, so I turned around and parked it.

As the story gets deeper, I was on vacation in Arkansas... I live in Texas. I was given a Toyota Corrolla as a rental and came home. 3 days later I called to check on my 8, put they had sent it to another dealer without even telling me. Well, I was ok with this. I get in touch with the Service manager and he says "You shattered first gear. There is no way you could have done this". As days go by, they tell me they ordered 29.......I repeat 29 parts for my transmission. 25 of the parts came it and the other 4 are on back order with no Estimated Time of Arival.

Why are they putting 29 parts in a transmission when the car just has 10,000 miles on it? Has anyone else had problems with their Transmission?

No, I never had any symptoms. Everything seemed to be fine. I might have heard a slight whine, but nothing it hasn't done since I bought it.

Nemesis8, I have been looking for other similar cases. I wonder how many people are having these problems or problems with their DriveTrain... We need a poll

That is crazy... Obviously this is a known problem. I have no idea when I will get my car back and I cam 360 miles away. And the Service manager says I "shattered first gear." How did I get back to the gas station in first gear? It was fine.

Ok, just thought I would update. Today makes 3 weeks without my car and they are "supposed" to get the final part in today. They have ORDERED...not replaced...ORDERED 32 parts for my transmission. Is this normal?

OK, I have come to the conclusion Support SUCKS. How long can this go on? This story never ends......

8/9/04 - Car Breaks down while shifting into Second Gear. Road side Assistance had it Towed to Northpoint Mazda
8/10/04 - Go to Northpoint Mazda and get a rental car. I am told it will be 7-10 days before the car is repaired. I explained I lived in Dallas and would only be able to get the car on the weekend. We set up the car to be picked up the 20 or 21st. I drive the Rental back to Dallas.
8/13/04 - Call Northpoint to check on the progress. They said they didn't have my car and would have to call me back. They call me back and tell me the car had been taken to Crain Mazda. They were in the process of ordering parts.
8/17/04 - I am told they have ordered 29 parts for my transmission. All but 4 were in. Those 4 have been placed on back order with no Estimated Time of Arrival. I then call customer assistance and am told they will make some phone calls.
8/18/04 - Call the dealership...No parts. Plans had already been make to take the 20th off. Hoping car will be ready.
8/19/04 - ...stil...no parts
8/20/04 - Nope, no parts. Last vacation day wasted......
8/26/04 - Call the dealership again. They got the four parts in, but had to get another one overnighted. It should be in tomorrow.
8/27/04 - Call to check on the part, but it didn't make it. It should be in Monday.
8/30/04 - Call to check on part and progress, but still no part.
8/31/04 - Call once again to check on the part, but it had somehow been routed to Canada and has an ETA of 9/3/04. I call Customer assistance again, hoping for some kind of break. I am now willing to trade my car for anything BUT a Mazda.
