6th gear??
ok, i just talked to my mazda dealership who has had my car for the last 2 weeks, i had it dropped off there after having transmission problems.
the person told me, 6th gear broke and was not a under warrenty, he told me it was from downshifting "to hard" and that was not covered. he then told me to replace the trans would be 2600+installation.
I told the guy it was all BS, because i dont even use 6th gear, so theres no way i could of broke it. he asked me what i wanted to do, and i said find out how much parts would cost to repair it.
opinions, if you were in my situation what would you do

If you're still covered under the warranty mileage/period, then I don't see why it's not covered. Some others have gotten the run around but eventually had it covered under warranty. Try doing a search on "transmission", "exploded" to see if you can find the info.
good luck.
good luck.

I see so you are being accused of downshifting too hard from Seventh Gear to Sixth eh ? Well, maybe he is right, maybe you did downshifted from Seventh to Sixth at like 230 MPH and broke the gear.

The dealers know that downshifting from 7th to 6th puts the most load on the trany. It should be covered under warranty. Just how fast were you going in reverse when you downshifted to 6th?

Krayzie8,
If I may ... you have a problem with a component of the "8". Any component on any car could go out at any time. So buying something else could lead to the same results. The difference is how the dealer is handling this for you. What's wrong with these guys. They get comped by Mazda for the repair don't they? Maybe not enough?
Anyway, I'm with the others in saying this should be taken care of. Check out these links for mor info ... and amunition when speaking to the dealer.

And there are more. Hang in there and don't let the dealer walk all over you. Get Mazda America involved and a lawyer after that if necessary.

Your transmission & clutch have already been replaced in less then 4500 miles and now you need another transmission ? ?
Just curious, have you been driving a manual for a long time ? If so then there is something seriously wrong with your car to cause these problems.
It sounds like the lemon law might be the way to go. No car should have these type of problems so early in it's life unless either the driver is new to a manual transmission or something is seriously wrong with the car.
Please keep us posted !!
When I was 20 yrs old I had a brand new Trans Am that blew 3 Automatic transmissions and the dealer replaced them everytime and that was back in the late 80's when customer service wasn't exactly in the dictionary of car dealers and I fully admit now :D that it was my beating the heck out of that car that caused it ...

i never post on here, just browse but this time i had to do it because the olympia mazda dealership is full of a bunch of *** holes.
i would never shop for a car there, i'm sorry that you already have
i looked at a silver rx8 which as of last month was still there and this was back in sept. i was looking, they don't seem to sell many 8's, anyways, i looked at it and test drove it and we couldn't come to an agreement because they wouldn't give me crap for my trade in, so about a week later they call me, AT WORK, and tell me they'll give me what i want for my trade in, so i go back the next day, and they say, "oh we didn't say we'd do that, this is what we'll give you, take it or leave it" i was so pissed off, they called me and made me drive from an hour away for nothing. so if i do end up purchasing an rx8 it wont be from them, sorry about the rant.
dude, if i were you i'd keep bugging them till they fix it because they're trying to screw you, if you have a warranty they should fix it imo

All it does is get a customer mad and you won't go back there again plus to top it off as a pissed off customer more people will hear your story then a satisfied customer ...
Just some quick advice for the next time that happens ... tell the dealer to write the sale up and fax it over to you and handle it by phone, if they refuse then they are obviously full of it.
I just helped my father purchase an Audi and the whole deal was done by the phone ... we never met the salesman until we picked up the vehicle.

If I were you, I would contact Mazda directly and report this to them and give them the dealerships name and have the dealership give you a written estimate for the repairs so you can submit that to Mazda as well.

As far as the sales side of the stealership, they are full of it. My purchase was so screwed up, that I droped my offer and was heading South to pick another 8 up from a dealer in Portland. Oly ended up offering me another car right off the truck for $2K less than MSRP. It had less than 10 miles on it, so I was the only one that drove it.

I've dealt with Chuck before, can't say good or bad about him. I would try and go above him, and get the owners involved. Tell them you are going to compalin about thier dealership to MNAO. It ususally gets their attention, since they don't like getting bad reports.
Were you able to talk to Wayne in the shop yet? What's his take on your failure?
It seems there are several people loosing sixth gear, searched and found this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=Missed+gear

What was actually wrong with the tranny the first time?
Sure, you might have a faulty tranny which is slowly falling apart. Maybe it failed again because the source problem was never addressed, only the symptom.
But I must admit, if I was a service manager, I'd hesitate fixing it under warranty for a THIRD time too. The clutch needing replacement, coupled with two tranny failures would FORCE me to investigate possible operator error.
Again, I have no idea what's really going on. Maybe is has nothing to do with you, and you got stuck with a bad tranny. But put yourself in their shoes. They have a reason to be cautious when you're back for a third warranty claim for the same problem area.

You Had One Of The Blow-up Versions Of The Clutch? They Know That But Think You Are Abusing The Tranny Instead Of Thinking That Maybe There Was Damage To The Tranny When The Clutch Blew That Caused It To Fail Now

i take it the clutch exploding is VERY common.
sounds like they built this car with a high hp motor and didnt reinforce anything that has to handle to output of the engine (trans, clutch, rearend)
