i think this site completely blows the whole street racing thing out of proportion.

most ppl on this site act like street racing was non existant before the fast and the furious hit the theaters....well it wasnt, its been around longer than anyone on this site.

but there is a fine line between a quick highway showdown and 100+cars lining up to drag race in the middle of the city...

it just seems like everytime someone brings up a race that didnt happen on a track they get flammed, most of you act like there is a drag strip in every town, the closest one to me is over 100 miles away....

if someone thinks their car is faster, we meet on an old road near my house and do a quick drag race, we dont get the whole town there to watch...and ive been doing that since i was 16...

after F&F came out though everyone started going out of town EVERYONE!!! like 100+ cars, and they got busted a few times, i think it was dumb...but its nothing like what my friends and i do....

 

Oh YEA , for sure, getting busted alone is WAY smarter.

 

I think we just s!ck of hearing about street racing, F&F, 2F2F, I killed this, I killed that.

 

Street Racing, in the eyes of the general public WAS non-existant before FATF.... becuase there was no 'general awareness' that it existed. Once this sort of 'underground' was brought into the light there were two things that happened: 1) kids started saying "Hey how do I get into that in my area?" and 2) those that didn't know it, or know nothing about it said "Not in my back-yard".

It has been going on for years... however, it's now just become more noticed and highlighed... and more exposure necessarily isn't a good thing, especially when it's sensationalized in the media. There was something recently I read that there were 8 deaths for street racing in some state... over the whole state. While one death is too much... 8 deaths happen every day in regular car accidents in most states.

I feel that the war on drugs was lost and the new battle is the war on street racing. Heck, only in america can you get cited for even watching cars go down the street fast (observing a street race).

While I strongly beleive in the 'Save it for the track' mentality.. that's really the best place to go fast, Dawrin will sort out those that should and shouldn't live. The only thing I don't like are the stories about killing innocent people like this one (and this is the reason that they are cracking down on it... I'm sure the cops could care less if you ball up your car... but some people are irresponsible and kill innocents):

You've got a flare for the melodramatic. Cops in Birmingham just run kids off for streetracing (or ticket them if they are feeling saucy). Or at least they did last time I went downtown on a Saturday night to look at the imports. Cops in Birmingham will arrest you for posession. I think drugs are still more important...

But, I would argue either war you mentioned was lost before it even started.

And, while I'm at it...

Darwin died a long time ago. Even then, he did no work as far as controling evolution. Natural Selection will sort it out, not Darwin. :D

 

Nope. The simple fact is that street racing is illegal, and this forum chooses not to associate with such a blatantly illegal activity - especially one that is so high profile these days. The forum rules are that street racing stories are not permitted, and will be deleted if posted. THAT is why there are no street racing stories around here.

Yea + people start arguing about what they killed an things get out of hand.

 

yea, on an old road that hardly gets used with 2 cars? sure there is a chance we might get busted, but its not nearly the same as intown, busy streets, lots of racers....

and yes to much exposure is a bad thing.

and its easy to say save it for the track, when you have a track near you.

 

2.5 hrs is the closest.. and yet many from my area still manage to get up there and back every wed/fri note for street nights.

Sorry guys, but seriously it’s not really that hard to say "a BMW M3 and I were on a CLOSED COURSE and did a pull from 0-160. I pulled ahead by half a car length etc.."

Keeps me happy, and keeps the forum free of any legal implications.
