I was wondering if anyone is pushing 300HP in an 8 yet (besides the very few w/turbo)? What are you packing under the hood?
Total Spending?

Manual RX-8 238HP
E-Manage 30HP
Exhaust 12HP
Mid-Pipe 10HP
Intake 10HP
Pulley Kit 8HP
--------------------------------------
308HP

I know that increase of HP from the manifacturers is not always true but it is possible, right? There has got to be some one out there that is pushing 300HP in a 8 without using a charger of any type.

if it only worked that way. there is no way a cat back would add more than 5hp (thats pushing it). the factory intake is already great so no room there. plus in some cases the 8 dynoed less than 238 stock. the best mod is the ecu programming but at most with just boltons and reflashed ecu would push 265 or maybe a tad more.

I got a nice orange bridge in SF I'll sell you. First off, that vendor that posted 8 HP gain (you know, the shop in CA) is complete and utter hogwash. Show me anyone that backed that claim up. Next, EVEN if an emanage gets you 30 and an exhaust gets you 12, instead of having 42 HP you will probably be closer to 37 or 38.

308 HP my ***.

doubt if the exaust + midpipe can get 15+ combinded. so 12 for one and 10 for the other is kinda too much exageration. with a quality CAI intake, it is more than possible to go 10 or even more HP. but i have yet to see any claims proven by 3rd parties for this. ecu programming might get ya somewhat 20-35 if lucky, but again, i havent seen proof.

i'd doupt if neone is pushin 300 without any FI turbochargers/superchargers taking into account that the 8 aren;t dynoing anywhere near 238 to start off with.

I honestly think with the right tuning it is possible. What if you added the stage II canzoomer with an ACT Flywheel?

parts work hand in hand.....

if a part advertises to add 10hp, then it just might do that...to a stock engine....

if you have a header, and borla exhaust for instance...
and you want to add this midpipe that is supposed to give you 10hp, when they claim 10hp its on a stock car not one with a header and exhaust, you may not even notice the differance adding the mid pipe....or you might think you do...

One of the problems with this reasoning is that you're mixing apples and oranges. Mazda's 238 HP number is crank horsepower, not wheel horsepower.

Here's the above list with realistic numbers, and wheel horsepower:

Manual RX-8, 180 WHP
CanZoomer/ E-Manage, 20 WHP
Exhaust, 3 WHP
Mid-Pipe, 8 WHP
Intake, 6 WHP
Flywheel, 5 WHP
Pulley Kit, 3 WHP
---------------------
TOTAL: 225 WHP

Now if you're looking to make the numbers look good to impress your friends and make the ladies swoon, then you could maybe estimate crank horsepower at 15% higher, or 254 at the crank.

And the problem with this reasoning is that the addition of HP is not a linear relationship. In other words, while the Canzoomer/E-Mange might get 20 WHP on a completely stock car, it will yield somewhat less (or even, potentially more) HP if the car has, say, an exhaust and midpipe.

Yep, that looks much more accurate.

Adding advertised numbers up to get a cumulative figure is the number one reason why ricers think they must have fast cars. If we start with a 127 hp Civic EX, add an intake to get an "advertised" 8 hp, add an exhaust to get an "advertised" 12 hp, add pulleys to get an "advertised" 5 hp, change cam timing pulleys to get an "advertised" 5 hp, and change our plug wires to get an "advertised" gain of 3 hp that all adds up to 160 hp. This must mean that this little Civic EX can now keep up with a 160 hp Civic SI. When the 2 get up to the light, the EX driver gets pissed to find out that the SI is walking away. How can this be? The reality is that ALL of his mods combined probably added up to about an 8 total hp gain in the real world to take him to 135 hp.

I heard 2 ricers in Barnes and Noble one day talking about exactly this same thing and how much power would be gained total. When I laughed they got pissed off at me and started to question what I drive and then proceed to tell me why my RX-7 would be slower based on the fact they have so many mods. Silly ricers. A race would have resulted in a reality check but you get the picture.

With good tuning, high 13's are possible without forced induction or nitrous. Horsepower numbers are irrelevant on paper if the car performs the way you want it to. Numbers on paper serve as nothing more than bragging rights.

Thanks rotorygod and Omicron for the reallity checks. Like I said before, I dont know much but in the last 3 days that I have been in this club most of my questions have been awnsered and I am learning more and more every day. Since I am deployed in Haiti, I have nothing to do so I am always on this web page from 600pm-600am (those are my hours). Please dont think my questions are stupid.

Nope we were all in the learning phases at some point. If anyone ever comes across as being harsh towards any of your comments please don't take it personally. Understand that there are many forum trolls who get online and spout out info they think they know about but in reality don't. I am not saying you are one of these people. I am just saying that sometimes we can be harsh to weed out the honest people from the immature ricers. Luckily no one came across that way here. We are actually a good group of people that are more than willing to help out others.

i <3 rice. Anyhow, have there been any reports of anyone messing with the Renesis motors' internals yet? Like, machined rotors or port modification? And on that same note, has there been any news on anyone actually running the motor on an engine dyno?
