Hit a curb in the rain
Hit a curb in the rain
Hey guys so basically it was raining and I was trying to drift and like honestly I was being dumb my car did a 360 and went straight into the curb hitting the whole passenger side both wheels are completely turned to the left the alignment is completely fucked up also I was going pretty fast as well. My front bumper came off as soon as I hit the curb and there is also fender damage on the passenger side. I limped it home for a mile while completely driving slanted while I believe my back tire was completely rubbing on the subframe the whole way home. I haven’t had time to take off the wheels and see all the damage but I’m not too familiar with suspension parts so I wanted to ask if anyone knows the first things I should do or look at when taking an attempt to fix all of this.
Ouch sorry to hear that. I wouldn't trust any of the subframe after a hit like that, it might be cheaper to get used good entire front and rear subframe assemblies than to buy it in parts.
Multiple bent control arms, likely damaged subframe like Loki mentioned, I wouldn't be shocked if you potentially damaged the passenger side axle and definitely damaged the wheel bearings on front and back hubs. Wheels likely also toast and not "true" anymore. At minimum you're more than likely looking at..
-Front subframe (maybe)
-Front upper and lower control arms
-Front wheel bearing
-Front wheel
-Rear subframe (maybe)
-Rear control arms (potentially all 5)
-Rear hub bearing
-Rear wheel
And that's not including any body damage. You made no comment of any airbags but even so, you've basically totaled your 8 with the amount of damage. Now you can without too much trouble replace all those things if nothing has happened to the frame or airbags, but you're now looking at an expensive repair. These are parts you CANNOT go cheap on. OEM only. It's pretty well documented at this point that aftermarket wheel bearings don't last on our cars and having a wheel lock up or come off is an EXTREME safety hazard and liability. Aftermarket control arms that are anything less than professional racing grade (aka +$1,000 easily) don't have a good history of holding up over rugged use and have exposed joints that wear very prematurely. I could go on but point is, might be good to use this thread to show the damages and start figuring out what your next step will be. You made a mistake and you owned up to it, now its time to either repair or part ways with it if it's something out of your skill, financial ability, or desire to deal with.
