Will it start?

So had my low compression rx-8 parked for 5 years. Last time i drove it a few miles. Do you think it will be able to start if I pop in a brand new battery? What about the old gas?

Drain old gas, fresh gas in. Change oil if needed. New battery. Possibly squirt some 2 stroke oil in the chambers as lubrication. That’s all that comes to mind. There’s probably many threads on this forum about this topic so it’d be best to search and see what they say as well.

You should lubricate and turn it over by hand slowly. Looking through the spark plug holes, you can gauge how impacted the rotors and seals were by corrosion.

The tank is almost full, 98 octane. I was thinking to just add some fresh gas and battery. I read somewhere it should be good for many years. It's been sitting in a heated garage all this time.

A new battery might help, but old gas could cause problems.
