FOB re-program trunk opens alarm goes off
FOB re-program trunk opens alarm goes off
So I have searched the forums I googled for the issue I am encountering and found no mention of it.
2008 RX-8 Grand Touring no existing key FOB one single working ignition key.
I bought two new switch blade key FOBs and am trying to program them. When I go through the steps to program them, Ignition key 3 times on/off, door switch press in 3 times.

The doors lock, unlock, then the trunk pops then the alarm goes off.
I press the lock button on the remote twice the alarm stops, but that is all. The remote still wont work the door locks it wont do anything. The red key icon shows up on the dash but FOBs wont work.
I have tried it several times now with the exact same results, door locks cycle, trunk pops, alarm goes off. FOB shuts off alarm but does nothing else after.Any suggestions?I press the lock button on the remote twice the alarm stops, but that is all. OEM keys, or aftermarket?
Mine is an S2, so this may not apply: There's a way to have it learn new keys that's a bit more involved using some of the higher end scanners (Autel, for instance). If you don't have or have access to one of these, call up a locksmith. I think that's about the cheapest way to get keys programmed. I want to say I paid about $50 (for sure under $100) to have a new key cut and paired a few years back before I got an Autel (for other reasons).

That may not be a programming issue then. I haven't gotten into the key programming stuff on my RX-8, but I don't think I've ever seen the ability to program individual fob buttons like that. Typically, the fob is paired as a unit, and that's all there is. You may have goofy aftermarket keys...
