MO Remove old state license plate

Kansas has finally issued new plates this year. My old one has been on the rear of my 07 for 14 years. The two top screws holding it on just turn and don't release. Do not see access to the back of the screws. What now?????

I think they're just plastic nuts behind the bumper cover.
It's been a while.
Seems like I was able to replace them.

Off the top of my head, I'd say try to grab the head of the screws with ViseGrips and drill them out.

At my age, 82, not up to doing it myself and most all the area Mazda dealers will no longer service RX8s. There has GOT to be another solution. Thanks for your reply,. Still looking for some simpler way to fix this.

You have no one to help you?
Where are you located?

You could try posting in your regional forum and see if there's a local member who might assist you.

A pizza and beer is usually payment enough.
Good luck.

I got the old fasteners/bolts drilled out (via a good neighbor). Finally found plastic inserts that worked. The thing you have to look out for is that the rectangular hole on the RX8 bumper is larger than normal.Had to do some shopping around to find inserts that were large enough and had four legs instead of two for the bolt/screw to spread tight.

Thanks for the update.
I'm glad you got it fixed without pulling the bumper, which is what many here said you had to do.

I don't remember how exactly I fixed it, but I know the bumper didn't have to come off.
