Regarding the issue of license plate, how much does it cost me to transfer my license plate number from my current car to another new car (which will be a second-hand car) ? anyone knows?

I think its also base on the value of your old car. the more expensive or bigger your old car is the more the transfer fee is.

Not very sure about it now, cos, thats what happen to me when I bought my E plate from another old car and put it onto my Rx8 about 1.5 years ago.

E plate... Nice....... If only there is a SE3P for sale. Think the price of the car which the plate is on will leap.

Hi Ardenz, u can go to LTA website to check on the available number and bid for it. Bidding will start with a minimum of about $1000 ( exclude GST )..... once u have won the bid , u can then arranged for an swop . That will cost u around $300. All in is about $1300. However, if u bid $9000 for a number, then u will need to add another $300 for the transfer . therefore all in will be $9300. Hope this help

Hi dr11855i, if u r buying a brand new car and this old car is under yr name , then the cost is on $100 ( i think ). During the transfer , lta will generate a new number for yr old car.

But if yr new car is a 2nd hand car, then it will be $1300 i think. And $2600 if u want to swop the number between the 2 cars <-- need confirmation .

hope this help.

yes morganoh, u r right if you are buying an old car just for the number. Technically, the dealer sell u the car to transfer the number to yr name. Assumng it is a very old car and the transfer fee is $200. But u buy it from the dealer at $1000. Dealer will do the transfer , pay the $200 and pocket the $800. After which he will help u to scrape the car. Since the number is now under yr name, u register it on yr new car for another $100 .

It only took me 6 days. 3 days for buying and transfering the old number, and 3 days for registering the old number on the new car.

I did not do it online, the seller of the no. plate and MazdaMotor did it for me.

I did not bid for the plate, cos my is an E plate, bought it after I found an ad in straits time.

The numbers are ES9933P and ET9933J (brothers ... )

yesterday in Hong Kong, at Wanchai, I spotted this white Rolls Royce Phantom,

with the licence plate "HK1" i think the plate alone can buy an RX8 and still have spare change!
