P0301 code.

I know this code means I should be replacing my ignition components, but before I do that I will ask a question.

I had previously got a P0335 code, so I pulled the Eccentric shaft position sensor to clean it, and I also swapped the “crank” pulley to an aftermarket pulley. Is it possible that I damaged the trigger wheel while doing this, or placed the trigger wheel incorrectly? The car is running better with that sensor cleaned, but anytime I go over 3500rpm it flashes the CEL. Power seems to be fine.

The trigger wheel only goes on one way... so that wouldn't be an issue unless you changed the hole pattern.

If the ignition is old.... changing it is the usual way to ensure that its working.

These cars are damn hard on ignition components.... and having good coils plugs and wires is the only way it will run correctly.

I would check the plugs first. If one of the coils isn't firing it is pretty easy to tell looking at the electrode.

If it idles OK and then craps out it is likely a leading plug coil or wire as the engine fires on the trailing plugs first at idle and then goes to leading in load
