Alternator / Wiring Issues

Hey folks. So, my issue is while rebuilding my alternator of my 07 I broke the plastic on the top plug with the two wires coming out of it. Called local Mazda for a price and apparently it's an entire network of plugs and wiring. $1600 for the harness. That's not an option. I rebuilt the alt, had it tested and it passed. Apparently a lot more can go bad in an alternator than the voltage regulator and 2 bearings. Well, it passed at AutoZone. Reinstalled the alternator, it failed my machine test, I was reading 13.1 volts car running and 3 days later the battery was dead. Bought a red top battery because the old battery was indeed old. I tossed the old alternator and ordered a new o.e.m. My issue is with the plug/clip. The top plastic housing cracked and broke away. The wires ( shrouded in 2 rubber coats inside the plug) looked in / making connection. It's anybody's guess as to if those two wires are making contact with the alternator. Before I reinstall the new one and new battery, can I just get a used clip from the local LKQ, cut and splice these 2 wires so I have a secure connection? And what does this plug regulate? Thank you.

I think you can get the plug for the alternator from Ballenger.

The RX8 generator is regulated by the ECU so you need it connected properly
