Improve Your Heel-Toe for (Almost) Free

I'm sure this has been posted before, but one of the benefits of not being a filthy newb, is I don't have to bother to search to find out.

In most RX-8s, Mazda helpfully included a fake aluminum racey gas pedal thingy. It's real aluminum, but fake as an aluminum race pedal. The pedal itself is really plastic and rubber and from a Mazda 3 or 6 or CX-9 or B-2000 or something.

But, the racey plate thingy is full of holes that happen to be spaced, so the wannabe race car driver person can shift the plate down and to the left to aid in heel-toe shifting. All the wannabe race car driver person needs is a 2.5mm Allen key, four #10 washers, and a dab of blue Loctite per bolt. Two washers per bolt level the racey plate thingy, as the countersunk holes have some ferrules on the back that make it **** up on the left side. A half drop of Loctite per nut ensures things won't loosen at the worst possible time.

The end result is a pedal that is shifted about 3/4" down and to the left, and about 1/8" closer to the driver. You can obviously add more washers to raise it up a bit more, because there are metal bushings in the plastic pedal to mate with the washers to keep things level from that side.

My Miata has something similar, but it was only "free," because I had $55 credit with Flyin' Miata at the time. I could have made it out of aluminum bar stock, but "free".

After seeing the other thread on this I did it to mine last year. On the street I have no issues but on track it's still not close enough to the brake pedal for me. Perhaps the sneakers I use for track have a narrower sole. I might try just cutting one out of aluminum similar to the 5x racing loud pedal I had on the miata that worked great (after some trimming).
