Which ECU for NA race car

I am looking for an ECU (stand alone or piggy back/flash) to help me tune my RX8 which will be running in SCCA's STL class next season. The engine is internally stock, stock intake, 55 mm restrictor plate, headers, and a single muffler. I'm running the stock ECU now but it is a little rich. Part throttle drive-ability is not much of a concern as long as I can get it from the paddock to the track.

From reading it looks like Cobb is no longer a good option, Adaptronic may be overkill, and Mazdaedit may be best way to go?

I'd appreciate any thoughts you have.

Alan

I'd do MazdaEdit personally. It will retain all the OEM stuff and allow you more than enough tuning to handle a stock motor

Adaptronic they have various option e420d etc. but the pnp I think is best maybe over kill now but there is room for growth you go Fl you're covered street port etc you're covered. Better to spend the money once then to have a change of heart later and have to do it twice always build and make room for growth IMO.

Thanks. FI will never be an option. At best I might get a larger restrictor plate if I write enough letters to the board. It's mainly tuning for different weather conditions after the initial tune.

Not sure how relevant OEM function is. I run premix, stability control disabled, no CEL, etc. What else is affected?

Is the sticky thread above the best resource for tuning with MazdaEdit?

I use Mazdaedit for the tune in an rx8 race series here in NZ .
They all run the same tune for parity but there is nothing an aftermarket ecu can do that will make an 8 any quicker .

Launch control ...maybe . I'm actually working on launch control through the stock ecu as well .

Interesting. So no improvement with A/F optimization?

I think what he said was there is no benefit to a full standalone over a flash tuned stock ECU

The A/F can be well optimized with the flash tune...and it will correctly run all the intake valves and auxiliary stuff with no issues. Steering and Throttle etc....

Got it, so flash tuned by what means? Cobb? Or does Mazdaedit fall in the flash tune category? Sorry, new to RX8 tuning.
