Great Upgrade New REW Swap Mount from RX8Performance

In 2011 I purchased a RX8Performance REW Swap mount to start my REW engine swap into my mostly track RX-8

At that time I had a normal REW oil pan setup( wet sump). The mount was the starting point for the swap..and the basis for all the mods needed to make it fit. During this time the mount was awesome...it held up to 450+ WHP and never gave me anything but great service

After 5 years I figured it was time for new bushings in the old mount

I was on the website and I noticed that they had redesigned the mount and had a look at the pictures. The new mount looked much simpler...and there were some really nice upgrades to the old mount. It was much simpler to install, it had larger bushings that had more surface area for support the engine weight and looked much more robust. I called Scott to talk about the new design. He told me that the new mount had been totally redesigned around the new bushings. He pointed out that the passenger side mount had an integrated heat shield and that the mount was more solid than the old unit. It is CNC cut and welded on a jig that is much better than the old jig that had been mostly hand built.

I liked that the mount had a one piece cross member that was a lot stronger than some of the multi piece units out there. I also liked that it didn't use the heavy REW mounts and that it allowed the motor to sit much lower because it was vertically compact

One of the things I liked about the new design was that it looked much simpler to do a motor re-re than the old one.

I decided that I would get one of the new mounts instead of new bushings for the old one

I had some concerns about the new mount though....my current setup had been designed around the engine position of the old mount and I was worried about a few areas that things were very tight....I couldn't move things much...and the new mount had to sit within 1/4 inch of the old position.
After talking to Scott he assured me the mount placed the motor in the same position.
When I switched from the wet sump to a dry sump system in 2013 I went with a 3/4" plate instead of a normal oil pan. At that time I re-did a couple of pipe placements to get things to fit again. I guess what I was worried about is that I would have to redo some things if the mount changed the position

I did the install yesterday. Put the car on the hoist...blocked the engine into position.....unbolted the old motor mount bolts...dropped the mount and held my breath. All this worrying was for nothing. the new mount bolted right up...motor sat in exactly the same position and I had no interference anywhere.

Took it for a drive and the motor was solid. Chucked it around and didn't notice anything different at all....if anything the mount was quieter because of the increased bushing area

If you are planning on doing a REW swap I can only give you my highest recommendation for this mount. it is a definite improvement to the old mount in every way and if I recall the price point is lower than when I bought the original mount

Few pics from the install. Sorry for the crappy light...the shop lights weren't working and I had to use my phone...so not the greatest pics

Here's the old mount removed...the dry sump plate

Second Pic is with the engine side of the mount bolted on

3rd pic is the left side with the mount installed...

4th Pic is the passenger side with the integrated heat shield

Last picture is the mount fully installed....

Very nice... if you don't mind me asking, what dry sump system did you go with?

Nice write-up Dan!

I'm glad to see that you are pleased with the new mount and it sounds as if the installation was as straightforward as we had anticipated! Although several have now been installed in traditional wet sump oil pan swaps I believe yours is the first unit on a dry sump.

Just FYI for those considering this swap we also offer the kit with a high capacity low profile oil pan for the REW engine. You can see them together here.

When is the next track event for you Dan?
