We would be in panic mode if our coolant temps reached those numbers

Yeah, I was most surprised by the oil temp and EGT's.

Although my bosses SLS AMG runs pretty hot. This was just running to gas station to fill it up, I wasn't ******* on it or anything and this was during the winter (well south Texas winter = 80's, lol).

A mates RX8 reached 135C(275F) on a recent track day - and his engine still lives !

It's only a matter of time before the used ZO6's fall apart.

In three years there will be a redesign. Probably bigger opening in the front to alleviate the problem.

Otherwise you can always adjust the hood so it sit higher aor air to escape the rear.

A few kids at my school have them and a (non ducted) hood vent is an option. There are only 3 or 4 slats coving the opening and they're at a pretty steep angle so I'd imagine that it decreases coolant temps a good amount.

Yeah it's a bad *** car from a performance standpoint but I don't really like the looks at all. I would rather drive his CL65 AMG.

If I saw 285 F for oil temperature I would certainly do a double-take.

I'm guessing by "at the track" they really mean "at race speed."

An interesting point for comparison - thanks for posting.

I can see this being a huge issue...and something that any serious track driving owner would have to fix. I would be concerned at 240.....

I was reading this month's issue of MotorTrend, in which Randy Pobst was quoted stating that after "a few laps" at Willow Springs, the oil temperature gauge on the Z06 was pegged at an indicated 320 F. Reminded me of this thread. Gauge accuracy and sensor location aside, that's toasty!
