engine Swap (13b REW)

Hello to everyone! Since a new member Not allowed in the Frankenstein Forum so posting here.

Little Prologue: bough a wrecked rx8, where the engine bay and half of the car was set on fire. Since i live close to Japan i bought a donor car and now, with a little help, my rx8 is back to life. Some pics for you to enjoy.

Not liking the Renny (and also its about to die soon, low compression) and want to swap it to REW. Been carefully following diffrent build threads however have some questions hoping you guys can help with.

13b REW:

1) OMP and oil injectors. Well i wanna use the front plate from the renny and stick it on to the REW, using the RX8 OMP. However question is, there are 4 lines leading to the oil injectors on the rx8, and only 2 on the RX7. What would be the diffrent solutions to overcome this problem? if you block the pathway to the 2 of the oil lines would that create some sort of backpressure? or you should create some sort of 4 to 2 solution?

2) second question maybe a bit more silly. Bought the BHR midpipe. As iam planing on building a custom turbo manifold, how do you think BHR midpipe will work with the rx7 turbo motor? or Should i be looking for a diffrent exaust solution alltogether.

P.S. sorry, not so familiar with all this technical stuff but willing to learn.

Welcome! I can't help you with the swap, but nice looking car! Those are some awesome wheels.

What exactly did end up using from the toasted car? It looks like it was completely trashed.

Ended up using old back window and the metal looking fuel door, apart from that everything was used from a donor car. Originaly the car was Automatic. now its 6 speed manual.

You'll have to custom fab the exhaust mani dp and oil pan. Also if you use the xcessive intake manifold you may be able to get away with stock ems (flashed of course) - I have a fd to rx8 tb adapter and uim manifold if you're interested

Well ok, fabricating custom mani and downpipe is fine.

Not completly following you on how you link the xcessive LIM and using the ems.

and whats a TB adapter?

In any case these ppoints like lim and uim which trany etc, were covered by other builders. Still not sure on the OMP cause rx8 has 4 injectors, r7 only 2.

You don't want to use the stock ECU....no where near good enough control over timing or fuel

If you don't want to fabricate a manifold, there is this option now.

RX-8 REW Swap Manifold

Also don't try to use the stock ECU to control the engine. You need a standalone for that. I chose to use an Adaptronic e440 for example.

To answer your questions, most people delete the OMP and just premix. Also the midpipe is fine but if you start really getting up there in HP numbers it might become an exhaust restriction and you might want to opt for a more free flowing exhaust setup.

I am definatly going to be using the atermarket brains for the car, paired with original ECU to control nice things like power strering and such.

HI ARCA! Nice to see you here. Loving your build.

as Far as i remember you plan to stick with the 13b rew frontplate, does that mean you will be pre-mixing or you looking to get the rx7 OMP working.

The Manifold that you suggested looks really nice, but for that price range i bet ill manage to custom build it for much cheaper.

I mean i want to try to get at least 400 HP, so BHR midpipe should be ok ?

The scariest bit remains for me drilling the renny front plate trying to get everything working, making the RX8 think that it was invented with the heart of rx7.

Thanks man.

Yes I'm keeping the REW front plate. It's a race car so I'm not retaining the dash at all.

I'm going to be premixing, the FD OMP is kind of a common thing to fail anyways, and my manifold and 4" downpipe will probably toast it anyways if it were there.

As far as the midpipe, I guess the only way to find out is to put on a straight through one as well and test both.
