Test Drove '05 RX-8 today - have a question

So I've been doing my fair share of research about rotary engines and the RX-8 lately because I'm looking to purchase a new car. I took an '05 for a test drive today and I really liked the way it drove and it was in great shape, but there was one issue that concerned me. When the car would come to a stop it idled pretty hard, and the car would shake rather hard. Anyone know if this is a serious issue or what might be causing this?

The CEL was on while I drove it, but the dealer said that he has the parts on order to take care of that...I don't know if that's related to the shaking issue.

Thanks!!

Did you happen to note the RPMs at idle? Was the A/C on? It may sound dumb, but start with the simple things first. As for the CEL, I would have the dealership run a diagnostic and see what code bounces back.

I did not notice the RPM's, but we did have the AC on high because it was hot as helll today. Could that have been the issue?

Yup. Mine drops pretty significantly in RPMs with the A/C on (as do most vehicles). Definitely get a code on that CEL before you purchase.

It could be that one of the plugs was burnt

Also have the engine mounts inspected.

Don't forget to get the compression test ;-)
