car immobilized after fitting new engine

car immobilized after fitting new engine

hello, so I bought a used engine and tranny for my rx8, including the ecu etc, and after long time of waiting to arrive and to get it fit inside, I tried to start the car, and it didn't for what seems to be it's immobilized ,

i am using a new ecu for my old keys and transponder

i am open for all ideas

Have you had a dealership pair the immobilizer to the ECU and the keys to the immobilizer and ECU? If not, that is your next step. It's not going to be cheap.

will try to do that tomorrow morning , yet, from my experience with our local mazda dealer , they know nothing about rx8s

I can't give you a guess on the cost. Considering they tend to charge $100 USD + for pairing keys to the car, it's probably going to be well north of that.


Why did you change the ECU?

If all goes well it will take around an hour if the tech knows what he is doing. The first one we did on my car took about 3 hours.....but we had problems with the as built data that we had

is there any way to come around the immobilizer if u don't want to use the original key system or such?

I'm thinking about putting an rx8 engine in to a old corolla but I'm wondering if its possible to use the original harness?

u mean that it will work without the keys and stuff?

so if i take out the complete engine with harness and ecu i will make it work if i just feed 12v and earth to the right places?

Your original ECU should work just fine with the new engine. Right now your immobilizer is freaking out because it doesn't recognize the new ECU.

I dont think u understand what i mean, i had to wright in this thread because im not allowed to start new ones..

I want to throw out my old otto engine from my toyota corolla and drop in a rotary engine from an rx-8 instead. Im going to use engine, gearbox, electric harness and original ecu from the rx8 and im wondering if it will work without complete ignition key and dash?

You will need the immobilizer and key module from the RX8 unless you can hack the ECU. It can be done. .. Racing Beat did it with there flash. It would be easier to run a standalone ECU though

is it hard to come by the racing beat flash?

would it be enough to just take the ignition house and use it?


I'm trying to use the original harness due to car inspection in sweden only authorize original harness unless u do huge rebuilds

I think you're on your own with this one. I'll repeat what has already been stated in this thread: you'll need the RX8 wiring harness, because the Corolla doesn't have half the electronics the RX8 has, and it should be infinitely easier to use the key and ignition lock from the same RX8 that the ECU comes from.

Also what Corolla are we talking about? Are you converting it to rear wheel drive at the same time?

im not an idiot, i didn't mean that i would use the corolla harness..

the car is a corolla ke70 wagon, it has a carburetor and kind of none existing electric original and its already rwd. i know the easiest way is to go standalone ecu, and i have a lot of experience with that.

but to get it cleared through swedish inspection it would help to use the original ecu and harness from the rx8, but I'm wondering if i possibly can skip to have to use the rx8 key system. and just use the ke70 key house to kick the start engine..

I'm just wondering if i have to use it or not?

has anyone tried to move engine, gearbox, harness and ecu to a completely different chassi?

I'm sorry if i don't explain it as well as u want to, I'm not used to the technical terms in english...
