Hey, I have a pretty good job opportunity in New Plymouth and hate the idea of leaving my car behind.

Does anyone have any experience moving a vehicle to New Zealand?

Or moving from another country to New Zealand. I am in the US now.

Hey Thanks, I found most of that info already, but I never found anything on left hand drive before.

It looks like a no go. It's not exactly a specialty interest vehicle.

I know after seeing the Mad Mike video it makes me a little sad. I think I need to buy all my parts before I move. That way I don't have to pa shipping.

Do right hand drive Cars still have the same shift pattern? First is up and left. Reverse is bottom right and press down?

I'm guessing you must be in the Gas or oil industry if you have a job opportunity in New Plymouth?
Great place and a go ahead area in New Zealand.
Its where I grew up in the Taranaki area and where my first job as an apprentice was in New Plymouth.
Bad area for getting caught speeding, or is it that it seems that every time I go down there I seem to get caught.
Not that many RX8's down there that I've seen, but plenty of Rotary nuts.

Yeah I'm debating on what to do with my car now. I have a friend who has some property. I Just rebuilt the engine and barely have 500 miles. Maybe it will Just have to sit a couple of years.

Yeap Halliburton, I run tools mainly Liner Hangers. I don't know about BHR coils I built mine with true AC delco d 585's for 300, verses BHR's who knows what brand coils for 500. Granted theirs look better but mine preform great.

It'll be a 3 month boat ride over there, but Heck I might be able to take a few orders.

 

I'm down that way a couple of times a year usually so keep in touch if you do make it over. Cheers.

 

there is nothing to stop you bringing your car with you,

not sure if its still the same law but.. I think you can bring over a lhd car if youowned ot for more than 6 months states side and once here you are not allowed to sell it for 5 years.

imo if you car is modded to a great deal bring it over, and use it as a donor car, assuming you buy another rx8.

No, they just didn't offer me enough. At firstt the guy told me it would be better then what I'm making now, but then the whole story changed once he had to put it in writing.

The main thing Is he first told me for every 5 days at work I would get a guaranteed 2 off(paid), but when he came down to it. There are zero guaranteed days off a year Except 4 weeks vacation.

He offered me a salary with a very small daily bonus when on job sites. It is more then my base pay by quite a bit, but I am currently hourly with bonuses so anything over 70 hours a week I work now I still get paid for.

With no guaranteed days off I am not going to take a salary position, where they can decide they want me to work non stop with no additional compensation.

It sucks, My wife and son were really looking forward to new zealand. My wife finishes nursing school next may. So I have been talking to our people in Adelaide, Aus. They have a position that is 14 days on and 14 days off. With a set pay and 4 weeks vacation. So I'll have to be at work 5 months a year and there's zero chance I'll have to work when on my two weeks off.

 

Was it in the oil/gasl industry ? Were you dealing with Kiwis ?

No they guy I'm dealing with is from north Texas, USA. He's working out of Perth running that whole reagon. Yeah it's in oilfield tools. and Yeah work has fallen off recently so I've only have about 60 hours a week the past month or so, but I probably average 100 hours a week at work. Luckely most of it is sitting around waiting, but I still get paid for it.

It is a little crazy at times, but I go to work for 3 or 4 days straight, then I'm home for 3 or 4 days. No getting up and gong to the office. Almost no paperwork. It gets pretty technical at times. Almost every job has something different to fit into the equation. So it gives things to think about. I get paid to sleep also, but some days I only run on 3-4 hours depending on what's going on. I don't have anyone else that works with me anywhere around. My bosses work about 300 miles away so the don't show up to see what's going on.

It's a lot better then going to work half the year and only being paid half the time you are gone.

Heck I'm at work Right now. Just surfing the internet.

What do you do?

 

Right now ............... nothing . But normally I'm buying and doing up/selling/renting houses .
If I do 20 hrs of work a week it's a tough week LOL


My training is as a mechanical engineer - was plant engineer for a plastics factory before i saw the light.

 

Nice I haven't known the feeling of working even 40 hours a week in 12 years. Maybe I do need to go to new zealand, 20 hour weeks and turbo 8's with great roads.

 

many of our roads were built with the rx8 in mind ....

 

And he's not kidding!! Either about his lifestyle or the roads! Lol.
