2004 with 90k,no mods.Got misfire,fixed misfire ,new coils plugs and wires.
When I moved the car to fix it it was a nice puddle of oil on the right side of engine.
After misfire fix get oil leak from crankshaft pulley on first start up and only when engine is cold.Out of Mazda warrenty but have one with Carmax.
Car runs great and the oil leak is small,(yes I know any oil leak is bad).
Anything I can do before piston mec's have to look at it?

not very hard to remove and install a new seal. you will need to remove the bolt that is attached to the main pulley hub....its about 260lbs of torque and has lock tight. you will need a breaker bar with a 19mm socket and a long pipe to remove the bolt. once you remove the bolt the pulley and hub will come off. now you need to remove the bottom bolts from the front cover to the oil pan, remove water pump, alternator, OMP, disconnect sensors and all the bolts on the front cover. remove the front cover. You will now be able to remove the main seal....you need to pry it off and replace it with a new one. you can press the new one in with your hand and put a little rtv around the seal. do everything in reverse and your done.

 

I thought oil gets thinner as it heats up, I am looking for the procedure from the shop manual and might do it myself.Does not seam so hard the way chepetech put it.

When you put the front plate back on make sure you hand tighten the screws from the oil pan to the cover....they strip very very easily. The cover not the bolt, its aluminum.
