Just wanted to drop by and say hi. I'm currently deployed overseas in AFG, however I just found out I have coolest wife in the world! She bought me an 2007 RX-8 today!

So I'll be doing some research and looking around.

Anything local going on with RX-8's? Good guys to get to know? RX-8 Shops?

I'm also a relatively new owner in La Vista. I've only met up with one other guy in the Omaha area, and I'm not sure if he's on here. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of 8 owners in the currently blizzard overrun Nebraska. I haven't actually even driven mine yet, except for a test drive before I bought it and a time around the block before I found out I needed coils. I paid $4500 for a clean title 2004 with a new engine. I had to tow it here because the guy couldn't afford to pay $2k from Mazda for a new clutch, so I bought and installed an Exedy. I also found out that the cat failed which carb'd up my engine, ruined my plugs, and at least 1 of my ignition coils failed (or at least 2 of them had big white exploded marks on the back). After I get those in tonight, I should be 100% up and running, and all for a total of $5700, which includes all parts, flywheel resurface, the UHaul rental, and gas. Everything.

That's all the back story I've got for ya. When are you due back in Omaha? I'm assuming you work on base when you're not deployed?

As far as shops, I do have sort of a hookup with a 'rotary expert' via a secondary contact, but Woodhouse Mazda has been awesome working with me to get my car running. I've brought parts in, shown them videos (slave cylinder actuating), called them for questions, and have pretty much bugged the hell out of them and they keep telling me to come on back and ask em for help if I need it. If I were going to get my car serviced somewhere, it'd be there.

Hit me up when you get back. I'm considering selling my car (since I stand to make some $$), but if not, I might not have it in pieces :D

 

I'm in Bellevue, an urban combat vet and a 3rd Gen. 7 owner. First, thanks for your service and be careful. Second, Merry Christmas and congrats on the car. Third, unless the local 8 owners have something, there's not much going on this time of year. As mentioned above, we're snow covered and sitting at about 10 F. today. My car probably won't be back out until Easter. Not aware of any rotary specific get togethers planned for the spring, but something might pop up. I make the occasional "Coffee and Cars" thing on Saturdays in NW Omaha and Flashbacks (84th and Center) on Wednesdays.
That failed cat may be what led to the "new engine". Whatever you replace it with...OEM or hi-flow, make sure it will last on a rotary. EGTs are typically alot higher. The Bonez hi-flow cat is popular with 3rd Gen. owners. Mine is over 10 yrs old and still performing.

 

The coffee cruise is new to me....

I live real close to Flashbacks and I plan and making a couple of those.
