Hey guys I need help what oil I should use here in Guyana, South America. It's a tropical climate here. Mazda recommends 5W-20 NON-Synthetic, but I did some research and got allot of mixed answers, trying to get some clarification here. I actually found out most RX-8 Owners here are using 10W-30. We get the Japanese version RX-8 here mostly (Right Hand Drive). Need some opinions!!!

 

5w20 is recommended in North American, motivated by satisfying US CAFE requirements. Specification most other places is 5w30.

Since you're in the tropics, you need something heavier. Look at the chart in post #8 of the following thread

and pick something that matches your ambient temperature.

Might as well use an oil grade more than 5w-30 when living in the tropics.

 

I've moved this into the Latin America Forum in hopes that you will get some response from others in the area.

 

The newest oils seem to be 0w30, and 0w40 synthetics.

My uoa in the uoa thread page 11 is very good on 0w40, my favorite oil.

I've run Mobil 1 10w30 in my dodge 4.7 pu with good uoa, also, but I'm going to switch to Mobil 1 0w30 for it since I rarely run full throttle.

There's your answer; if you drive a vehicle very hard, put 0w40, and if you drive for mileage run 0w30.

I like 10w30 better than 5w30, but 0w30 or 0w40 is best.

 

I used to run 5W30 when the car was still in Cali, then shipped over here to South America, I ran 5W30 Castrol GTX for a while till I started having some minor leaks over the oil hose banjo fittings. Took them off and retorqued, still had same issues. Switched to 10W30 Mobil Synthetic Blend and it was gone. I'm thinking the 5W30 was getting way too thin in the tropical weather let alone 5W20 causing small seapages.

You could try:

MOTUL 15W50 revolution 4000 (mineral) for the engine
MOTUL 710 2T (ester) for premix 160:1

Works great for me and I am in Central America 19 to 25 degrees celcius

As I was telling you, I am using:
MOTUL 15w50 motion 4000 for the engine
MOTUL 710 2T (ester) for premix

I own an engine machine shop and I know a little bit about engines, and here we race the Formula MAZDA, and must of them race just with the 710 in higher fuel/oil ratio.
In my personal experience these oils works for me in the last 3 years and the compressions are very good. Of course there are some people adding other oils to the engines, that is why there are a lot of engine changes.
Remember that the RX-8 is very hot, and with a thin oil, you will know what will happen.
Of course this is MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE , and of course you can also use the olive oil as the funy guy.
