The alarm pad for my 2004 GT has stopped working for some reason. It's seen it's share of falls but nothing to serious. It seemed to work less and less over the last few days. I would have to hit the key several times for it to open or lock the car. And today it stopped working all together. Tryed replacing it with the correct battery and still nothing. What's the route to take here? Dealership? Any help would be great.

So if your power windows don't work either, then its the fuse. It could also be a problem with the door locks themselves...solenoid in the actuator, some wiring gone bad, etc

 

It's not a fuse or a battery, you'd have to take it to the dealer and have them reprogram the FOB. It's time for you to get a switchblade. "1.3_LittersOfFurry's" second post should have ended this post. Read the threads he had linked and post your questions there... So the dealer has the switchblade key? Wonder how much two of those will cost.

 

Yes you can program another FOB with only one key. If you want to add a key; in your case, give the dealer your VIN to order the pre-cut blade and they will program your security-chip. Theoretically, your valet key counts as a working key since it has a working chip.

They do, but it will cost you roughly $200 for a pre-cut blade, programmed (security-chip) key and FOB transmitter. The two switch blade key pictured above, I bought used in eBay.

Got it cut at Home Depot and programmed the key and the buttons in 15 minutes.

 

That's good to hear, but uh ... one complication, there is only one Mazda dealer down here and they can't do it ...... By FOB, do u mean only the lower part with the buttons coz I know it comes in two pieces looking from the links ? So cutting a key wont just work like that even with programmed FOB ?

 

Yes, the FOB is your alarm buttons, the upper half with the switch blade requires a different set of steps to program the key to work allowing you to start the car. You can open doors with the cut key but it will not start your car. It's good to have another set of keys anyway.
