Cel on but no issues with my rx8

Hi

So I just purchased an rx8 last week, 2005, 231, manual with 37k miles on the clock. I have booked an appointment with mazda this week anyway to check the car out fully, after driving it for a few days from buying, the CEL light came on but the car feels exactly the same, checked the oil everything is fine, has this happened to anybody else?

Ps this car is amazing and i am proud to have bought it!

Hard to make a call on the cel light without you telling us what it is. Could be a ton of stuff. You van get it checked for free at autozone or most any auto parts store. Mazda will also tell you what the code was but they will more than likely charge you for it.

Yea true, I am in the UK and have a Mazda dealer that does free checks so I will take it to them, if the CEL flashes instead of on solid, does that mean a more serious problem with the car?

The CEL basically means that the car's powertrain computer saw something wrong with the data it received from one of the dozens of sensors on the engine.

It could be something as minor as a one-time glitch that never recurs. Or it could be something very significant. There really is no way to tell without first pulling the code, and then troubleshooting the issue.

If all of the fluids are good, and all the gauges read normal, and the car operates properly... Chances are that it isn't too serious, and a diagnostic can wait a day or two. (But I'm not making any guarantees here. )

And yes, if the CEL flashes, it is something very serious.

So I got the car back from the stealership, and the code P0410 came up saying air circuit malfunction, they checked the air pump circuit and it was all ok

Well, that means two things.

Either it's an intermittent issue that just happened to be not acting up when they were checking it out... Or a one-time event that may never occur again.

Hopefully it's the latter, because intermittent issues can be very difficult.

CEL flashing means misfire...look into ignition system and get it fix otherwise more issues would appear cuz' of it.

Solid CEL when start up it's usually none ignition related.

Hi guys

Compression test results were fine, the massive loss of power was from the cat which is getting changed this week along with the ignition coils, leads and plugs, I still get the P04010 code coming up is that cause the cat is busted ?

The high back-pressure from a plugged cat could possibly be reducing the secondary air pump flow.....

Might go away with the new cat.

The pipe that sends air to the header may also be carboned up, (mine was) and then the light would come back.

This is really strange because my newly purchased 05 with 37.7k mi just threw a CEL as well.

Same thing to report here, no power loss or anything else, so I'm going to assume its not serious. However, it didn't clear with key cycling, so its a decent problem. Dealer appointment on Monday, and stopping at autozone today. Will update when I know more.

Hi Maedra

Is your Rx the 6 speed?

Mine is at the same milage and I changed the cat, coild, leads, and plugs and the CEL light which was a P0410 (air pump) went away after these changes, due to the milage and previous owner retarded driving the engine was flooded ruining the cat, at the milage we are at the ignition components are due for a change also.

Keera, Yes mine is a 6 speed.

I had AutoZone pull up the code about a week ago, and mine was just an "Evap Emissions" code. I had them clear it rather than leave a lesser code up (fearing that it might hide a more major problem) and to see if it comes back again. It still hasn't come back up so I think I'm all set!

I'll probably be doing those soon too. As soon as I know I'll still have the change left over after paying for school. :P
