Hey everyone, I just bought a 2005 Sunlight Silver 8, 6spd with 62,500 miles on it from a trusted dealer here in VA. I asked the service tech for any records and he gave me a few printed out pages.

I noticed on one page it said that in March of 2009 (engine had 31,000 miles) the previous owner issued the "Engine cranks but will not start" complaint and Mazda performed Repair Procedure A+B From Service bulletin 01-015/08. The engine compression test results were as follows:
Front Rotor: 791.08, 782.08, 766.08
Rear Rotor: 747.42, 735.42, 719.42

After reading through the service bulletin I believe they used the engine cleaner process as well to clean out any carbon. They also replaced the wires, coils, etc, replaced the air filter and replaced the catalytic converter at this time.

My question is, are these numbers where they should be? I know nothing about compression test numbers or how to interpret them even after reading through some other threads on this site (being new to this site I must say there is SO much information and it has been extremely helpful in answering most of my questions).

Also, since this was done about 2 years ago should the compression results be about the same? The oil was just changed about 700 miles ago and I was going to use a seafoam or techron treatment in the tank before my next oil change.

The main reason I wanted to know about the compression test results and use the fuel system treatment is because I wanted to try and get an increase in gas mileage (although I know it wouldn't be much). Can anyone help me out?

Also, if I read through the service bulletins and notice a problem that I am having that matches one of the bulletins, can I simply take the car into the mazda dealership and ask them to fix it under warranty? Thanks

The service bulletins tend only be "free" when you have a bumper to bumper warranty. About the only thing covered after that is the cat, and engine core.

Some of the nicer dealers will do the work for free though, but don't hold your breath. All the others will happily charge you too.

 

Did the dealership who performed the compression test ever told you if it passed or not? Just curious.

Need to know what RPMs the engine was cranking at to properly correlate these numbers against the standard chart for good/bad readings.

I also don't know what rpm the engine was cranking at, I just assumed that they did it at 250 rpm but then again I probably shouldnt just assume that right? I just wanted to know if I should get another compression test even if I don't realize any loss in power or rough idling, etc. or if I should do a seafoam treatment just to get some smoother riding, better gas mileage, etc?
