Has anybody used the Ohlin DFV Coilovers for the RX-8? They are quite expensive but it looks like from other cars that they are better than their competition. I found them for sale for around $2600-2800 but Ohlin doesn't list those people as resellers so maybe you can buy them directly.

They have Part No: MASMI00 for the RX-8.

I am just looking to see if anybody has any comments on them. They are most likely more than I can handle at the track and way more money against fun factor but it's interesting I did not find anybody talking about them in the forums.

$2600-$2800 and they dont even offer duel adjustabilty. Crazy if you ask me. I am sure the valving is very precise. If I remember correctly you pick your spring rates and they valve them accordingly.

 

Ohlins is a very good brand

 

I have a set on my 09 R3. At the soft setting, they are very comfortable on the street and the car isn't as harsh over potholes when compared to the OEM suspension. When stiffened up for the track, the car is very predictable and feels well balanced (but I'm not a suspension expert). I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. And I like that there is a local place (at Sears Point) that can rebuild the shocks.

I didn't know you were running the ohlins.

I just like the dual adjustability of my kw v3's. There are so many variables that you need to adjust for when your really fine tuning the suspension and single adjustability doesn't allow you to do that. But at the same time, more adjustability in yhe wrong hands only makes things worse, so maybe I'm hurting myself. LOL

Yeah, single adjustable is fine for me, less things for me to screw up. And the Ohlins have a remote cable for the rear shocks so they are easily adjustable from the trunk.

If you know what you're doing and like experimenting, double adjustable is then worth having.

 

So, it looks like they are adjustable while still mounted so that's good I didn't see remote cables included in the package.. did they come with it? or did you buy them as extra?

How many miles have you done on them? I hear every 20-30k miles, you should get them checked out. Having PSI at Infineon is very good for us since they can do revalves for quite a few brands.

Yes, the coilovers come with remote cables for the rear shocks. For my install, they are mounted to the inner trunk wall that block access to the rear seats (I'm not sure what that part is called).

I have 6K or 7K miles on mine and 10-12 track days. I'll probably have them rebuilt at 30K miles due to all my track days I do. FWIW, Rick Weldon from PR Motorports (an Ohlins dealer) said they should last longer than that for the average user.

 

They are pretty when new and sparkling clean...

No, sorry, I don't have any pics of them installed on the car.

 

Ha ha sorry What I had meant was do you have any pictures of the rear "set up" not what they look like set up/installed. I am curious to see what they did for the rear upper and mid mounts. I have never seen an actual for RX-8 pic of the Ohlins rear dampener/spring set up.

 

I don't have any more pictures of the coilvers (while in the box); I just took that one picture before they were installed.

 

I just added Ohlin's Road and Track coilovers to my 2011 R3. They are are nice improvement over the stock Bilsteins. They handle the small road imperfections much better than the Bilsteins. I had them set at 15 clicks off hard. I plan on experimenting over the next few weeks to find the best setting for my type of driving. I'll add some pictures later this week (along with my new Work Wheels).

 

I saw in the older posts in this thread that they come with cables for the rear dampers, but according to Brian Goodwin, they do not. Do yours have the cable adjusters, or are they available?

 

May i suggest you guys keep a log for adjustments. In the long term a proper log will save you a world of heartache.

 

chibana - I purchased my Ohlins from Good-win Racing. They came with the cables to adjust the rear dampers - mine are installed in the trunk. I can only say great things about these coilovers - they are better than stock in every way. I'll try to upload some pictures this weekend.
