flickering display
flickering display
maybe somebody else has had an identical problem and can share some insight. My oem radio/clock display on my 05' flickers sometimes or goes off completely while everything else is powered fine. It only happens when I have my driving/headlights on and when it dims if I hit above the display on the dash or I hit a bump driving it'll return to full brightness. I installed an ipod adapter like 2 years ago into the sat jack but this problem has only arisen recently. It doesnt seem to matter if I have any audio on or not and it occurs somewhat frequently. Is their a connection loose possibly or is their some other potential fix I can try, or is the unit itself dying? I have not taken to mazda yet since I wanted to see if I could do something myself first. Like I said the rest of the instruments light up fine at night, its just the top display that has radio station, time, and temp thats giving me issues currently but not during the day..thanks for any help.
I have a similar issue that started at the beginning of Winter the morning of our first sub freezing temperatures. My display looks somewhat like the bomb countdown timer from the movie Predator.
It usually happens when the temperature is too hot or too cold. My Mazda 6i radio/clock display now is losing the LED letters and numbers because of the hot weather we have here in Vegas. I parked both of my cars in the garage, but when i go to work, i parked it outside. The heat inside the car is damaging the LED display. It did it with my 6i.
all the characters are working normally, its just the whole display just dims & flickers sometimes when driving at night (with the lights on) and by hitting a bump or giving it a love tap it brightens to normal but then will go back to flickering after a while.
I've had my car 3 years living in illinois so we get a wide range of weather but nothing so extreme that i'd knowlingly be damaging my interior electronics, I park in my garage when I'm at home..... I'd be pretty disappointed with mazda if mostly normal driving conditions and parking my car outside while at work caused the display to go bad. I mean even this car isn't really a "winter" car so I'd assume they'd put components in it that will stand up to normal summer heat at times.......

I had my Mazda 6i checked about this problem, and they say that it needs the whole display module only. I just wanted to know what's wrong with it. I never have it replaced yet.
thecarter- yours is not the problem the others are talking about. your face plate is not connected correctly. look for other threads just a little ways down or maybe on page 2 of this forum about radio issues. or search my posts for "push" in the last month, that will get you one of them and i put a link in it to the other thread.
I just searched on Youtube and found some videos of the flickering that I am getting. One commenter, on one of the videos, said he'd been able to correct it by disconnecting the batter for 2 hours. I will try that and comment back as to whether it had any effect or not.
I just had an issue, where from when I pulled the radio out, I pulled the screws going from the main carriage to the faceplate out, causing the pins to pull out of the faceplate, causing the screen not to work. Make sure the pins from the metal radio chassis are fully seated with the faceplate.
Update: I disconnected the battery last evening when I got home, and then reconnected the battery this morning before going to work. The display was working normally again. I'm guessing it somehow got out of sync and needed to be reset.
The bad news is that my DSC OFF light was on when I powered the car up. I'm hoping that's just a blown fuse.

This is what mine has looked like for well... quite some time now... I don't know if its the LCD display or the radio itself causing issues.
