Was reading it, and then ..."where is the end", then I realized the date. He is apparently still on this

Looking forward to the rest.

It seems he's a pretty active responder to people posting in the comments section. Overall, it's nice to see a good writer "get" what the RX-8 is all about.

I think the story is all there - there are five parts. The second part is a very skippable Infinity G37 review. When I read they were doing twisties in subfreezing weather and summer tires, I was thinking that's not good at all. Sure enough, a few paragraphs later the car had left the road.

They are in the trip right now. There are 6 parts, and the 6th was posted 2 days ago.

There may be more to the story, but the first five parts were posted in December, so I presume that is when the trip took place.

Oh, my mistake. I got to part 6, saw it wasn't completed, looked at the date and saw it was the day before (at the time), and guessed it was still underway.

The author is the person who created and runs www.truedelta.com. They collect reliability and some other data from any owner who subscribes.

Nice piece, but can u believe the author's 73 yr old father almost killed them both on the twisties? They were prolly on the crap--and worn out--stock suspension and tires.

I thought for sure he would take the G37 or rent a car. I like that they stuck it out in the Rx8 and still had fun on the roads!!

The stock suspension is far better than most cars built these days and while the Bridgestone tires are not great they are again better than most stock tires. Could it be perhaps that he was trying to take things faster than he should? Don’t assume that someone loses control due to faulty mechanics. It’s more often the driver at fault. Even with Pro performance gear someone can easily lose control due to ignorance, over confidence or plain stupidity.

Gear only goes so far, driver skill plays a bigger part. If you suck at driving a Honda civic you’ll suck at driving a Ferrari.

Otherwise I love this thread. I did 6500 miles in 16 days in mine and loved every minute of it (camping most and motels for less than 1/3 of it). We’re planning on doing it again in a year or so.

Yeah, I made the Deals Gap Rotary Rally last week and had a blast. 1750 miles in total. One thing about the corners down there, many, if not most, were of a changing radius and quite a few had in-turn camber that tilted the wrong way while the road was still bending. Both combine to make perfectly sane speeds on the entrance quite iffy towards the exit. One big advantage of having the event early is that the trees aren't fully leafed in, which allowed much more visibility in tight bends that would not be there later in the year. My stock suspension and old RE-40s did just fine, though of course, could be improved upon. Every car has limits that are best respected.
