However, they can be easily removed.

BUTTTTT, There are cross members and structural supports in the way from being able to use this space after you remove them for much of anything but weight savings, unless you are moving piping or something.

the center part is removeable by simple push button, not much fits though it. and as others have said the seats dont move.

So far the OP is just talking about the seats. We have no idea what the reason for his question is yet.

So true, and now we have covered all the possible questions related to the rear seats and this issue, which I am pretty sure could have been googled.

maybe not a large one. not sure if the opening is large enough to even get the large one through.

I have quite a bit of experience with luggage in the 8's trunk, as I fly often. Any large suitcase will not fit through the trunk opening. Medium ones (think large carry-on with wheels size) will just squeeze through. Once through, you can then slide it to one side and squeeze a second medium one in.

The blue one would fit. Black one would not fit through the opening. When I travel with large suitcases, they go in the back seat.

I prefer a sports bag style luggage when moving in this car. My football bag fits perfect and you can slide it in.
It holds my shoulderpads and helmet plus shower stuff etc so i can fit around 15 days of clothes in it

I can fit in the trunk. I'm pretty small though... like, 5'5". lol

It seems to be a big trunk for a sports car. The middle section is a removable storage bin and can be locked if you take it to a valet. The seats do not fold down, but as others have said, are easily removable. I dunno how to remove them, would like to know how (PM link to instructions if anyone has them).

There's storage bins out the wazoo in the RX-8... but my previous car was the king of small-cars that could carry a shitload (brought a couple of plastic patio chairs upstate with room to spare for a couple of boxes too). It was a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 hatchback.

Just note that you actually have to pull pretty hard to pop out the bottom and seat back. Don't be scared. Don't think it's possible to break anything.

Finally got the bottom cushions out in the rear. I had to sit on the center console to get enough leverage. Now I have to vacuum up the rest of the broken glass that the previous owner neglected to tell me about.

Removing the rear seat cushions like the instructions say will definitely get you the space of a car with folding seats. I'll post some pics.

I don't understand why people are obsessing with the trunk size. Unless there are more than 2 occupants, anything that doesn't fit in the trunk can be tossed in the back seat area.

And, if there are no other passengers, the passenger seat will lay down flat (especially with the rear seat cushion removed) and you can carry almost anything there. I regularly carry a 150 lb scooter in the passenger area, with room left in the back seat and trunk for anything else.

The car is amazingly versatile, if you use some imagination...

i guess the issue is not the amount of volume, but the size, considering that if the seats did fold down you could put something there that was quite large, while still being able to carry another person.

on the other hand, it is dangerous putting loose items like that in the cabin, considering it could become a projectile if you were hit or get into an accident.
