DIY: The Ultimate Tune Up Compilation

Ok guys, so the plan for this post is to make a one stop spot for looking up DIYs for common failures or Tune Ups for the Rx8 - in case anybody needs a good idea on what they should be doing to keep their car in tip top shape.

I'll start -

Engine and Fuel:

Oil Change

MAF Sensor Cleaning

Throttle Body Cleaning

Spark Plug Change

Fuel Sock Cleaning/Fuel Pump Removal

20 Brake Stomp (Resets eccentric shaft position sensor)

Motor Mount Replacement

Ignition Coils

Tranny and Diff Fluid

Exhaust:

Catalytic Converter Removal

Gutting the Cat

Wheels:

Front Wheel Stud Replacement *Hammer at your own risk*

Rear Wheel Stud Replacement

Changing Brake Pads

Electrical & Lighting:

Good list of Wiring

Bulb Code List

Headlight Bulb Replacement

Taillight Bulb Replacement

Misc:

Clutch Pedal Removal and Fix *You need access to a welder or a shop that can weld*

Cool thread, maybe also throw in a DIY for spark wires, diff fluid change, tranny fluid change (mt), removal of air intake box, how to change cabin filter, etc.

Want to say thanks to everyone who contributes to the DIY pages here. Picked up my 2004 last Sept., my first 8. Has 83.8K on it and was having engine running problems. I have a good feeling the previous owners did not do nearly enough maintenance. Did my ignition system and sea foam for the first time. Car is running like dream now. Better than when I first drove it. I'll be doing more next weekend. Props to everyone for the knowledge.

I just got a generic can of this throttle body, and air intake cleaner. Worked fine for me.

http://www.miataturbo.net/attachment...ine=1374425886

You can get it at Autozone. Make sure it's dry before reassembly.

I used napkins, and Q-tips to catch the grooves in the air tube. The Throttle body was filthy, and took me about an hour to clean, but it was shining bright when I was done.

The guys on here might know of a better method, or a better product. So, I would keep an eye on the thread, and see if anyone else responds. Happy cleaning!

Engine rebuild

I know this topic pops up a million times so bear with me .i was gonna post my own thread but it wouldn't let me . So I'm gonna rebuild and port my renesis engine and I was wondering if I should just the whole engine rebuild kit (gaskets, o-rings, seals, springs, etc) or if I should just get the kit that comes with all new seals and stuff for the rotors . My engine runs fine and it actually still in the car right now I'm pulling it out this winter and porting it and when I rebuild it I need a little guidance . Sorry for the question since everyone asks it but I'm curious . And another thing is what is the solution to the "marbles in the can" noise or whatever it makes a weird noise around 6000-7000 rpms but goes away around 7500-8000 . Any reason why ?
