CA Rxplodes' turbo build up!

hey all! i finally got my turbo kit, greddy, its used but its got a rebuilt turbo, as long as i break it in properly it should be fine. right now mods are cobb ap, rx7 store mid pipe with high flow cat, greddy se catback, axial flow short shifter. i got more mods but they arnt related to this.

waiting to go on is the greddy kit with a recirc valve, 550cc deatsch werks injectors or 750 rc injectors.

heres some pics of my stuff.

now heres the thing, i got a couple of questions for you experienced turbo owners.

what injetors should i run? the 550cc or 750cc, both are plug and play.
i plan on running upto 300 initially, i eventually want to get to 350whp. should i rig the wastegate on the stock turbo to run more pressure or is that a bad idea?

If thats the stock greddy turbo you wont see more than 280hp. Your stock injectors are fine for that.

just like mawnee said, the greddy turbo untouched will net you 255-260 whp without boost controller, with the boost controller you may be around 260-280whp working the heck out of the wastegate (it will not be a pretty looking boost profile) look into a upgrade and few other changes if you want to break 300 whp (brettus just updated a greddy turbo thread that has lots of good info on this)

Looking at your pics you'll wanna plumb the actuator line to the turbo outlet (GReddy Fix #2)... First link in in Gregs post

sweet thanks for the info, ill deffinatly plum the signal from the port on the compressor. i guess ill run the stock turbo untill it quits on me then ill swap the snail, i was thinking along the lines of a 20g or something in the t3/t4 spec. i love running canyons and i do not want to sacrifice mid range power too much. i understand that MM upgrade is a well built kit but i might end up going for a BNR replacement.

UPDATE: ok well i just got all the rest of the little things im going to need for the install, spark plugs, oil, filter, universal flange for my recirc bpv, oil catch can. im tired of seeing all this stuff sitting on my floor. im going to attempt to in stall my kit after reading many DIY and the greddy directions to cover all sides.

im going to get the MM email tune at the end of the week to use every minute possible during the 6 month tune policy.

i dont have any new pictures because everything has been sitting in the same place as the last set. im settling on the 550cc injectors because i doubt i will need anymore fuel, my last mods are going to include a larger FMIC with thermal dissipating coating and racing brake 4 pot fronts.

ill add pics of my install this coming weekend and hope i dont run into any snags.

likie Mawnee said - expect 240-250 on stock wastegate settings so no need for bigger injectors till you upgrade the turbo . The stock Greddy will give you just the right punch in the midrange you are looking for . If you want to tighten up the wastgate and go for more top end you should also fit water/meth kit .
Good luck with the install.

ok well things didnt go according to plan, some things got hung up in the mail and put off my install day. i just found out that NGK BUR9EQP plugs are all out in socal (well SD area) and raceroots are on back order also. i know i need to get a colder heat range plug but i am gunna go ahead with the install and put in the new plugs when i get them. other than that im pretty confident that i can finish in one weekend or so.

right now my goal is to best the 300 whp mark with the stock greddy turbo, i know it can be done but i am going to try it without excess stress to the turbo or any meth. i know its going to be a challenge but thats what makes it fun.

time to completion: monday?

Its not a challenge, its not physically possible. That turbo cannot flow enough to make 300HP. Trying really hard wont change physics. Once you pass a certain point turning up the boost will just make a bunch of hot air. All the dynos you have seen of "greddy" turbos running near 300 HP are running completely different snails on the greddy manifold.

I would be willing to wager some kind of charge cooling was used to make that power. You said you wanted 300 without any meth or pushing the turbo.

And yea, not trying to discourage you. Just trying to keep things realistic. I have no doubt if you tried really really hard you could get the number 300 on a dyno sheet with it. And your car would feel awesome for all 500rpm of your usable power

i understand that its not going to be easy, i guess i am going to casual into it but right now ill see what power i can get. after i give it a go i can look at what things i can change that wont cause a whole new retune. the more i type the more i see myself going in *** backwards, but thats just me, i want to push the limits and show others what the best they can get without going all out. dont think im trying to boost on a budget, i understand the consequences if i push too far or something fails at a critical moment, n im ok with that. if that is the limit of the stock turbo then im fine with that, i just want to try and make sure that, that is the limit.

Be careful, once you get that turbo pushed out of its effeciency range its gonna make some really hot air. Too hot of air into your engine and you car will match your username

ok after a couple days of frustration a couple nice people helped me figure out my stupidity. i got the manifold, turbo, oil feed and return, wastegate all mounted up. some of those bolts and nuts are put in places only a gymnast could get to but i managed to tighten them down.
here are some pics while i was working:

ok so i only have two.... im the only one working on her so i rather get everything done then stop n take a pic.

next up is the 02 sensor, which got striped while using...dun dun dunnnnnnn...........a 02 removal tool.....awesome huh?
heres the damage:

hopfully i can salvage it n not buy a replacement, i have a couple more things to try but it doesnt look promising.

tomorrow i will be mounting my IC and running the pipes, by the end of the week i should know if i need a new 02 sensor or not n op check everything.

Looks like everything is going okay so far, shitty about the o2 sensor but I would get a new one as it will be impossible to ever get it out again if you do get it back in. I start my turbo install in 3 weeks, i'm super pumped. Keep us updated!

No, the rear one is very different - the front is a wide-band and about four times the price.....

so this weekend i plan to finish up this little adventure, i got the oil feed line in the mounts back on the IC mounted and started to run the pipes in. everything was going fine untill i started to take off the stock intake...i proceeded to take off the maf, loosen the coupler to the TB, i gently pulled on the plastic peices connecting the jet air? hoses. SNAP OWTF! ok, its just one right? i move on to the next one, thinking ill twist this one so i dont break this one either.....nope thing just shears off with a simple twist....FML! then the last one i say hell with it and rip it out.....guess what? it came out fine.....god damn i hate that bull ****.

anyways tomorrow i plan on finishing the pipes and throwing some oil in it.

heres some pics:
