13.017 1/4 mile - Renesis 808 Wagon

Phil Laird, one of Australias best Rotary Engine builders has put a RENESIS 13B in an old Mazda 808 Station Wagon.

With a std motor (Aus 177kW rated), an early set of fabricated extractors and a MoTeC M800 ECU the 808 ran 13.017@100.94mph at Willowbank Raceway.

Unfortunately the SIV RX-7 gearbox in the car did not want to shift gears at high rpm so granny shifts had to be used (big pause between each gear) which cost both time and mph.

Another box is being fitted and the car should be back at the track very soon for some more runs.

Here's a pic of the beast.

This was taken last year when it had a 13B Bridge Ported engine in it. It was the first time it was run at the track and ran 11.7 before breaking a leaf spring and retiring for the meeting.

Nice! I wonder what the weight is? It makes me want to chop off half my car and throw it out!

No pics yet, but it is all std so apart from being in a grotty old engine bay, so there is no added joy in looking at the engine.

It will really be interesting too see with a little development how well this engine will perform.

I would only shoot myself if it ran a 18sec and i didn't beat it, which is what i would expect it to run. If it ran a 13 and i didn't beat it i could live w/ that.

Hey Ike...the 11 sec car was turbo'd....13 sec with a NA rotary is pretty cool. It took a lot for me to run high 13's in my gutted 1st gen RX7 without a turbo.

It ran the 11 second pass with a naturally aspirated bridge ported 13B, no turbo in sight.
