Sirius satellite radio programming issue

ok - here's an interesting one....

Ever since about mid-December when Sirius did an automated over the air update on the built in satellite radio, I have been unable to program any channel below 53 into the radio. When I try to program it, it *appears* to take it. But then when I try using the programmed button, it comes up as "Invalid" and pops me back to a working channel.

Called in to Sirius Canada. They did an over the air reset with me in the car and the radio on. Twice we did this. No luck. Issue is still there. Sirius Canada tells me to bring the car into the Mazda dealer.

Anyone encountered this?

I had a problem where stations would appear to take in the memory location, but when I would push one of them, nothing would happen. There was a TSB for this problem. Maybe it's the same root problem?

I had this problem when I had XM. Disconnect the battery for a bit. It will reset the radio and you'll be able to reprogram.

Same issue here... I took it to the dealer on saturday and they disconnected/reconnected the battery. It worked for a day and the same problem returned.

I read the other mazda owners are experiencing the same issue.

I am not sure if I will keep the service, but this makes it so inconvient to have to find the station each time I drive the car...

Mine never returned after the battery reset. I might have pumped the pedal 20 times, though I don't think you need to since that relates to the ECU not the radio.

Fingers crossed here, have not have this problem yet. Good to know about the battery reset if if happens.

I did however noticed while at their site the other day they now have a few channels in the 800s range. These are not available in our radio (only up to the 100s), has anyone tried accessing these channels?

This is exactly the problem I am having. Real pain in the butt...even incoming calls cause the radio to reset and I have to manually flip back to the channel I was listening to.

Good to know about the battery disconnect/reconnect but a bit awkward - not what I bargained for. I wonder if it is easier to just remove and reinsert the fuse for the audio system. In any way, have appointment with dealer on Tuesday. Will see what they say....

Yep, Mazda dealer confirmed there was a tech note on this issue and fixed it. As I was in a rush I didn't get a chance to speak to the mechanic to find out exactly what they did. We'll see if it comes back...

Furthermore, I just noticed that since the Mazda dealer *fixed* the problem, I lost the artist display. Coincidently, the artist display did not work when I got the car and only started to work when the programming malfunctioned...which was also when Sirius did an automatic download to my satellite radio. Something goofy going on...

Maybe they rolled back the firmware that updated the artist.

Just a note from me, everything worked fine for me without dealer intervention and just a simple battery reset. Course I then got another update a couple months later that turned off my service.

Took mine in again on Monday. They said that after they did the battery trick, it would work for like 5 minutes and then back to behaving badly. They said that there is a fix/report out there and they need this new service part to update. It is on order will they will let me know when it will arrive.

I will update if that part ever comes ie

Had mine updated 3/5/10. Works fine now. I have not had any trouble since. It is nice to get in the car or get off the phone or what have you and the station i was listening to comes back. It would usually go back to mad dog...
