6speed tranny "bell housing"

Hi,

I buy a used manual 6speed tranny. the problem is that the bell housing was not included.
can i simply take my old bell housing from my old transmission and put it on the other one? or is there a problem?
i hope someone can help me or have a copy of the transmission repair manual..

Martin

It's not that simple. It can be done, but you are basically doing a partial trans rebuild in the process. All the shafts and shift fork assemblies get installed in that section with it face down, then you add the center casing, then the tail housing, all while setting and adjusting various components along the way. It's not just a bell housing. It's also the front wall between the gearbox and the clutch. There's a special service tool that holds the reverse idler gear doing it this way that you then have to remove. There's no way to do this by installing that end of the trans last.
