weird whistle/chirp when i accelerate

ok, here is the deal with my '04 rx8. a few months back i started to notice that when i slightly accelerated, there was some weird high pitch whistling/chirp noise somewhat coming from the transmission hard to hear but when you tune the sound, ull hear it every time;

however if i floor it and/or change gears, there was no noise, engine sounded normal.. but if i reduced the rpm and slightly accelerated, the whistle weird thing is back and at any gear..

took it to the dealer and after 3 visits, they have no idea what the heck is causing the noise.. all they say is that it shouldnt be an issue.. they suggested to change the transmission oil to the high performance synthetic rx8 racing oil to reduce friction and that should fix the issue.. after $200, sound is still there.. i also feel some lack of power, but since i had the "lack of power recall" which did nothing, the said they cant do the zoom zoom treatment for free..

when the powertrain was still covered with the warranty extension, if i asked that they open up the transmission but didnt find anything, then the cost would fall on me.. all the cost.

i got the car at 45k and it has 57k now but the engine only has 30ishk.. has someone encountered this issue and has a knows how to fix it?? thanks!

Somewhere on your exhaust pipe there's a small hole that air is leaking out, causing a whistle. you don't hear it when you floor it because the engine overpowers the noise. idk if your stock or not but it could be from a bad welding job. it not a big deal to fix though, good luck :]

^I agree.
Check for an exhaust leak.
I heard a leak in another RX8 and laughed because it made me think of a kid's attempt to create a BOV sound without the BOV.

It's your intake, almost all the after market intakes will have a whistling/BOV noise every time you blip the throttle. A dirty OEM filter in your OEM Box will do the same.

Hi guys ,This is karl in the uk . Now about this bloody chirping noise thats driving me insane . Ive spoke to nearly every mazda dealer in the uk who havnt got a clue . Ive been given every bull **** excuse as to why rexs do it , you would laugh if i wrote what they have said . I have changed my coil packs to the new uprated ones , changed the plugs , magnecor leads , alernater . pulleys, belts , and it still does it . Costing me a fortune . Its NOT a hole in the exhaust either , because too many rexs do it and they all cant have holes can they ! . I will say this though, the car has only done it since i took it in for the recall , where they either richened the mixture or leaned it off for easier starting . The car has never flooded , its done 26,000 miles and been serviced at mazda every 5,000 miles . So come on guys , there must be someone out there that knows !!!!! , Ive give up asking anyone here now .

I noticed sinced my cars been in for it's service, it does have a chirp now, same as the vid and you only get it if you touch the gas pedal slightly, bigger openings it does'nt happen.
It is something to do with the last ecu flash, but as to the cause of the noise i've no idea.

Yeah like the chirp on the ipod touch video . i think its quite loud. I dont mind it chirping when you rev it caus its really muted and you have really got to listen for it . If the noise is normal , why did it only start happening at 22,000 miles ? . Mazda say its nothing to worry about , but if they dont know what is doing it , how can they say that ? . Anyway before i had the ecu flash it was fine . I told mazda to put it back to how it was before the flash, they told me they cant .

WOW..... I thought I was going crazy over this. My 2005 has a whistling sound almost like when you take a whistle and barely blow in it. I took it to altered atmosphere and they said it was just the intake and this was as soon as I pulled up to the shop. So I felt better about it. I did want to get an aftermarket intake but said the hell with that and wasting money. It is annoying and I just wish there was a way to stop it completely. Oh well

Yep! I get the same chirping sound at idle. Seems to run fine. Oh and I do have an RB Intake.

Just my 2 cents.

Thread revival...
My car sometimes produces this chirping sound on cold start-ups only (and usually when the outside temperature is also cool). In these cases, it also gives the chirping noise when I start to roll right after the cold startup, i.e. at low RPM when there is some load on the engine. After warming up (or on warm start-ups), the noise doesn't happen anymore.

Not really a concern, but I wonder what causes this. Any idea?

When you hear this "chirp", do you usually notice bird feathers flying up into the air??

I think it is knocking:
At the time of high-load low-speed operation, the mixture in the end of the working chamber is compressed and self-ignites before the normal flame reaches, causing abnormal noise. This phenomenon is called "knocking."
The rotary engine has disadvantages to "knocking", such as a longer distance of flame propagation because of its flat working chamber, much delay in flame propagation to the trailing side of the working chamber being compressed in the course from the compression-stroke to the combustion-stroke.
On the other hand, advantages to "knocking" are: the mixture is apt to the cooled because of the larger surface to volume ratio of the working chamber, the fuel particles concentrated in the trailing side as the rotor turns to form rich mixture, etc.
...
"Knocking" occuring in the reciprocating engine may melt the exhaust valves leading to serious damage to the engine. In the rotary engine, on the contrary, no damage to the engine will be caused because there is no local temperature rise.

Check your coils. If not, the "squeak" might be the slave cylinder pin on the disengagement fork pivot. Search on this.

hmmmm - I have a couple of rotor housings that would disagree with that statement . Heh

Yeah I have this same exact problem and it is driving me nuts. while cruising i can make it whistle indefinitely just by lightly pressing the gas pedal. Does not affect the car ride but makes your car sound broken! I need help on this too.

UK Whistle sound when under load from 3k to 5k

Hi guys, first of all my name's Alin.

I got an RX8 a few days ago, did all my research and stuff, got it, serviced it, changed the spark plugs and leads at EuroSpec2000 today but just wanted to ask see if any of you guys have experience the same problem with your rx8.

It starts alright, but as soon as it goes over 3000RPM in every gear it whistles like its got a big *** turbo... and it wont rev more then 5000RPM... Im not getting any errors or codes from the ECU... its just slow and noisy...

Any ideas on where to start?
