Do all new RX8s have their spark plugs replaced when you buy the car?
Do all new RX8s have their spark plugs replaced when you buy the car?
When I bought my new 40th anniversary RX8 in December of 08, the salesman said they just installed new plugs, and a new battery in the car. He told me that this was standard procedure for all new RX8s. Is this true?
I am starting to worry that my RX8 was flooded before I bought it.
Thanks,
Panek

Plugs are standard to have changed when they deliver the car(if it's brand new). I guess they put some other type of plug in during shipping from Japan.............I forget why.
Not sure about the battery, but that could just be it's been sitting..........I wouldn't worry about it.

because after all the transportation, starting/shutting off cold at ports. dealerships. etc. There is a chance that plugs might be seeing too much fuel and go "bad"
so yeah, replacing it with new one will "make the car" 'look better.
but if they ask me, I will just tell them to skip the "replacing" step. Just gimme a set of new plugs instead. Cuz im pretty sure those "foul" plugs should be able to last 5K miles

Make sure you get a receipt from the dealer they did the job as said, otherwise they will tell you they assumed and you will eventually end up paying for another set.
Follow NYCGPS advise, ask them to give you the new ones and keep the same ones jejeje, but since you're gonna be under warranty make sure you negotiated any addtional concerns prior to signing that contract

Just some info....
Since about 2005/06 ALL RX-8's ECU's have been configured when started to Idle at 2800 RPM, this is to assist in Transport and Dealers moving the car on their lots to prevent flooding/over-revving etc.
Once the car has covered a total of 9 miles (15 kilometres) the ECU cancels the pre-delivery RPM settings back to normal.
I would have thought that ALL 2008 RX-8's would have the modified or Hotter plugs in them?.

I was very impressed with the gift when I looked up the dealer price.

When I took delivery of my 8, a set of plugs was amongst the various trinkets they gave me. The car was on the showroom floor, and had some test drive miles on it. I'd guess that they put in a new set to prep it for the showroom, then gave me the pre-delivery inspection set rather than waste it.

judging from the "bullshit" they gave me when my father took his cx-7 delivery. they didnt even fill up his tank. bullshit. Plus all the other horrible service issue,
I swear I will never buy anything from Manhattan Mazda again.
Rosenthal Tyson's Mazda, where I bought Zoomy, is the only dealer to ever fill the tank for me on a new car delivery. When we picked up my wife's Camry at the Toyota dealer across the street, the salesman said he was going to put some gas in it - but put in barely enough for us to get to the nearest gas station.
I came pretty close to tearing up the deal on the Toyota because they kept us there for almost two hours trying to sell us every imaginable piece of **** before they'd just take our check and give us the car.
To stay on topic, Rosenthal was the only dealer to give me a set of spark plugs.
