Operating tv screens/dvd nav
Operating tv screens/dvd nav
Hey guys, I just bought this 8 and it came with tv screens in the door panels. (I personally wouldnt pay for this, but if I have them I may as well know how to use them...) There are a few small switches on the console. 2 of them have to be up for the navigation to come on, otherwise its fuzzy. There are audio/video jacks on the side of the center console, and another plug coming out of the front of the stock head unit. I will take pics as soon as I can.
With what I have, is there a way to just hook up my laptop to the a/v plugs and make it stream to the nav/door panels like that?
Any comments or advice would be helpful

DSM, grats on the 8 but to be honest we really have no way of knowing what that system is capable since it's obviously a custom job.
post some pics of the connections, switches, and the TV's and we'll do our best...

The minijack plug coming out of the face of the CD player is for audio input. Only audio. Plug it into the headphone jack of an MP3 player.
The three jacks on the side are inputs for video and audio. Specifically composite video sources. Any DVD player will plug right in. The yellow plug is video. The red and white are left and right audio.
The relay satellite module is for a remote start system.
The Audio/Video selector is just that. You plug a bunch of different video sources into it and press whichever button you want to pass through to the screens. So you can hook up a DVD player, PS3, 360, etc all to one screen.
Don't know how it all ties together. Obviously I'd have to take a look in person at whatever the hell you have going on there. lol I'd have no way of knowing what the switches do. Looks like a cheezy little job though.

I hooked up that minijack to my mp3 player a few days ago but couldnt figure out how to switch the audio over to it...
I hooked up the a/v ports to a portable dvd player, but couldnt figure out how to get power to the screens. Played with the switches and nothing.
Looks like my best bet would be to take it to the local sound shop and get it checked out. Arggh another 45 bucks.lol What I really want is to be able to stream from my laptop to the tv screens and nav screen....

Because the last person to touch it, is responsible for it. You have a ton of hookie rigged up stuff in there.
Once you get everything figured out, it may work great for you. But I know I surely wouldn't put my signature on the install.
