(Searched and did not find an existing thread here, and very little on autopia....I'm guessing this might be a new product.)

I'm a fan of the old fashioned way: clay bar, Scratch X, polish, wax, etc. All Meguires products. Have not used anything Turtle Wax in a decade or two.

However, this product comes highly recommended to me from a friend who is a perfectionist when it comes to his cars, including his black 2008 Lexus and black 2006 Audi. He says this is great for black cars.

Okay, perhaps instead of asking if anyone had tried it, perhaps I should have asked: Does it sound like a gimmick? Does it sound like a shortcut?

 

Never saw it before, but I'm going to get some to try, once the CT winter ends....

 

i used something similiar to this but it was mcguiar...i was on a different car...a 1950 studebaker.
it worked extremely well
and what's that mysterious fourth bottle hiding behind all the other ones

 

A refill bottle of the spray detailer maybe? It does look pretty interesting, might have to give it a try. I found on another forum it's about $20 for the kit, not bad.



*edit* Although, I did find this article when attempting to research the "Black Box". It does sound about right. HMMMMM, might just stick with what I use now.

 

the bottle in the back is most likely a polishing wax, thats typically the third wax application in kits like these

 

I like Turtle Ice for 'everday' shines, Meguair's Nxt Tech 2 for a more serious shine and Griot's Garage Best of Show high Carnauba content when I'm deadly serious.

This Black Box is a one stop shopping kit obviously cleverly marketed - "if it's specially formulated for a black finish car it must be good for my ...."

They obviously also went for the aircraft high tech name-recognition "black box" (which is actually orange).

 

Well, that did it for me. It would not suprise me if a company tried to downplay a competitors pruduct, but that makes anhelluva lot of sense.

Plus, if timnted waxes were the way to go then Meguiars, Zaino, and every one else would have one too.

 

any updates on folks who found good results???????????? im always willing to try new products out. i think when i return home ill try it out...its finally getting under 90 degrees here.

 

havent seen it in stores....but come to think of it Black wax...on a clear coat WTF It reminds me of their other product Turtle wax color magic which is the same basic idea and if you look around in forums, people seem to hate it.

 

I bought it at Pep Boys. 20 bucks. Not bad. Not a bad process. No white residue. Shine like a motha, but as far as lasting... not so good. The spay is like a tinted black quik detailer and the wax dries a greysih black so when you take it off it doesnt leave the white in all the cracks. Great if you are looking for a deep rich shine that doesnt last. By the second car wash it's loosing its impact.

50/50 on the return for the dollar. Good for a short term deep shine.

Oh... you have to use the detailer to get it off, if not its a bitch.

 

Typically these type of "black car cure alls" use fillers to mask the swirls, and right after you have used it,it looks great,but all you have done is cover up the flaws that are still there.Mazda paint is very easy to swirl up/scratch,but it is also easy to work with to fix the swirls.This is what I used on my Brilliant black Miata.
Wash/dry
I use a Flex,but a Porter Cable will work also, just a little more time consuming.With Pinnacle swirl remover/orange pad.
Followed with Menzera Nano polish/white pad.
Finished with either Poor Boys Ex-Sealant or Wolfgang sealant.
And a high quality wax on top is up to you if you so choose for a deeper shine.But not that noticable after the Menzerna.There is a reason companies try these black car one stops,black is frustrating to work on,and it shows everything.It is a long process to keep it looking perfect but the results are well worth it,if done right.

 

it amuses me how people find year old threads and answer to them like the OP is still seeking an answer.

 

well, if anyone actually uses the search function rather than creating another thread about black wax then I see nothing wrong with his post. Perhaps someone can gain knowledge off of it.

Now when someone asks if a part is still for sale and the thread is like 3 years old, thats annoying.

 

I just got this and will be trying it out.

 

this is dam good thing. he really can bring my 04 black old paint back to life. Amazing reborn but not sure hows durable he can last on my 8!!!

I use Turtle Wax Black wax on my car. I do not find it to provide as good a finish as other, more extensive waxing methods, but there is one thing I really like about it. I can use it on all the plastics without the white residue left by other waxes. It is also very easy to use, which means I wax my car more often than I otherwise would. It is not the greatest stuff, but it does have benefits.

 

In my experience there is nothing that puts a deeper longer lasting shine on a black car with the least amount of effort than Pittman's Original VaporWax APC.

Always go with Mothers, Anything with Carnuba oil .
