Fuel injectors and RPM: When do they come on

I have the RX-8 book by Jack Yamaguchi.

For the record, accepted as fact, I want to dispense this information for the 6port Renesis engine:

- There are 3 fuel injectors called: Primary Injector #1, Primary Injector #2, and Secondary injector.
- Primary Injector #1 is a 12-hole type atomizer and is in use all the time.
- Primary Injector #2 and Secondary injector bothare in use above 3750 rpm

Therefore, cruising at 115 kph should make a difference vs 120 kph that is relatively significant just for going 5kph faster.

I didn't ask a question. I am dispensing information.

i would think the injectors could come on before the 3750rpm point under enough load. just that after 3750rpm, they are definitly on, regardless of load (unless you are off throttle completely). the thing is, and i found this out with my geo metro back in the day, with a car that has no torque. if you drive around with the revs low, you need quite a bit of throttle to accomplish what a few more revs (and thus km/h) would. and often, higher revs with less throttle is better than lower revs with more throttle when we are talking like 1000rpm differnce. obviously not gonna get better milage at 6 grand barely on the throttle than at 2500rpm at cruising speed. its also not like when you hit 3750rpm the flood gates open and here comes the fuel. the injectors will be in effect, but the ECU will allow for the appropriate amount of fuel. good info though footman. there may be something to this despite my contradictory remarks above. its just my way. haha. i'll try this next time im doing some extensive highway driving and record my mileages. im hoping you'll do the same footman as your experiment with the frozen/flooded intake was very informative and well done. the problem is, its soooooo much fun to give 'er on the highway and keep the revs up. lol. damn our kick *** cars. damn them!!!! lol

Footman: We are WOWing at ur nerdiness.

And we love it. 'cause we would like to know more about our cars but we are not crazy enough like you.

Keep up teh great work.

rotarygreg: I think I understand what you meant...but only way to verify it is to have an engineer to calculate the same distance to/from work on exactly the same route on highway, with scangauage / accessport to report on mileage as well...

Hey Footman...we need you!

Yeah there's a lot more info too from that book, I've just scratched the surface. The entire suspension geometry is listed, including default caster/camber/toe angles and other technical specifications like rebound rate and compression rate for the shocks, and travel etc...

and that's just the suspension part.

I was totally amazed at how they designed the rear door! They had a japanese female engineer sit inside, to simulate a typical asian female's arm length, and from then, they attached sensors to calculate her muscle's strength required to close the door, distance of stretching and such!

Eventually, this is how they moved the handle closer to towards the back to allow someone who sat in the back to comfortably open the door on their own. They compared it to the Saturn Ion as the competitor and it demonstrated that the Saturn's door handle was too far out requiring too much of a stretch.

Then to faciliate the weight of the door, they designed some cam system embedded in the rear door such that when you pull it, minimal effort is required to close as some sort of weight thing starts moving inside to give it momentum!!

hey, I'm an engineer after all, I do get impressed by such feats of design!

that is pretty cool.....and a great way to design ( with people in mind that is ) and also the engeneering behind it is impressive as well.
