looks good man. there are a few things that i HATE about the new body (namely those side markers and the fog light strakes) but most of them can be changed. still love those wheels tho.

let us know how it feels - i assume from your post count you didn't have a "1st gen" rx-8 -- maybe you can meet up w/ someone in your area and you can each do test drives and a first-hand comparo for us...

Congrats & Welcome. I think you're the first announced R3 owner.

Now.... How much for those wheels?

Talking

Thanks everyone for the positive compliments. They have been hard to come by in previous forums. Glad to see some maturity for once.

My only complaint about the car which I learned today from the DVD that came with it is that you have to let the car warm up for 5 mins before you shut it off to avoid "flooding". Kind of unusual, but this it my first car with a rotary motor so I guess I can expect new things ahead as well. Aside from the poor mileage it gets and having to use 91+ gas it seems like a great car. Feels very responsive at high speed on the highway and solid around turns. I will need to drive it a bit more before I can compare it with my past 2005 350Z.

blackmobile; many people believe that the rotary car needs to be broken in when new so try not to mash the peddle TOO much during the first 600 miles or so. www.racingbeat.com has a guide they recommend following.

Flooding was a big issue with the early 04 models but since has gotten MUCH better. The spark plugs were redesigned, battery upgraded, and a more powerful starter were all put into circulation in 05 to counter the flooding. I very seldom see flooding posts any more.
I would say unless it's SUPER cold outside, you shoudl be fine starting the car and shutting it right back off.

Jedi - Thanks for the link, I will check it out. Also those pieces of info you gave make me a little more comfortable.

Im looking to add accessories pretty quick but not even the dealer had a brushure for 09 accessories yet. He handed me one for 08's which most of the stuff was already on my car stock, or didnt fit my model. Does anyone know what the best sites to check out would be for the 09's for add ons / mods?

man, your profile sig pick looks wicked -- the wheels are SWEET, and the front end it more aggressive than our stock front end.

pretty good forum here for the most part - i attribute it to the overall enthusiast/collector attitude of the rx-8 -- people here just care more than most car owners i think, so most are VERY helpful and always look out for fellow owners.

def read up on the common "pitfalls", dare i say that word, about the rotary engine. flooding is less of an issue now (vs '04), but never turn the car on and off (ie moving the car from the garage to the driveway -- let it run for a few minutes first); be sure to rev it enough daily/weekly to prevent carbon build-up; make sure you get your oil changed frequently (3000 to 4000 miles for most people i think). and it deserves mentioning again, REV THE **** OUT OF THAT THING!!

BTW, I will add a K&N drop in air filter for temporary use if you have no intention to upgrade the intake. Probably ditch the stock exhaust as well. Just my 2 cents...

The only sites I've seen with anything are written in Japanese. I haven't seen anything published about add ons that specifically note that they can be used for the '09s. Search this site for whatever you're interested in (ie. brakes, short shifter, accents) but you may want to do a little research on the differences between the refreshed '09 and the 04-08 models to make sure you're not getting something that won't fit. If I were you I'd talk to Mazda to find out when they'll have the MS kit available. The '09 kit with your wheels would be fantastic.

As far as the flooding go the general rule is you do want to warm it up, if you can't make sure you give it a rev to 5k (not over), before shutting it down to help prevent it, try not to go over 5k until your water coolant temp has equalized (just left of the halfway mark, and once you're warmed up be sure to redline it once a day. This ain't your Zed and it loves to see 9k RPM.

Check out the new owner FAQs around here and when you want to learn more about something specific remember to search first. Since your car is a little different then most you mind want to remind people you have an R3 when you're asking a question that otherwise would be treated as inane (ie. what springs work with my shocks).

Also, in regards with the flooding issues, I only let my car warm up for a 1-2 minutes before driving. I never had flooding issues, and my 8 is a 2006. You don't need to wait for 5 minutes. Like it was mentioned earlier, a lot of issues have been fixed from the recalls.

I havent taken any interior photos. I didnt opt to get the nav since I have a nice portable Harman Kardon unit I love and can use when needed. I can hide that, but the stock nav just screams "steal me".
